Hello folks, about two months ago I acquired a 2004 Toyota Tundra SR5. The truck is a 4-door with a 6.5 bed. Last weekend, I bought a used Jason Camper Shell for it. The camper shell fits great but it came with two wires (red and red/black) connected to the 3rd brake light. My question to you all is, where do I connect the cabling?

I did some searching prior to posting this but I am still not 100%. Folks are saying that I need to tap into the driver side rear light and connect the positive from the camper to the green/white cable on the truck and connect the red/black (negative) to a ground source. Before I do anything, I would like some help from anyone who's done the same for their 2004 Toyota Tundra.

And thanks ahead. The picture below is the bottom light fixture/housing. I think this is the brake light bulb/position

I will add some photos in the am on what connects to what. I had a hard time figuring it out also but I got it.

with the photos you can see what I tapped into on the rear tail light.

I do recommend buying a 4 pin trailer plug (if you plan to add lights inside) so you can disconnect the lights and third brake light whenever you want to remove the shell.

2 pin trailer plug if you don’t plan to add lights

The Positive wire goes to Green w/white stripe
The Ground wire goes to White w/ black wire

Hell yeah. That’s dope. So much info online but nothing for our trucks. Let me know when you are ready to add lights in the back. Got that figured out also

Thanks for posting. I'm sure there are tutorials, but I'll be using this soon. I don't care all that much whether my topper brake light works, but...might as well get it working. Right now it's just got wires hanging out of it.

As we found out in the Camper Shell thread (I think), the wires are different across the years and cab types. I'd edit your post to say "At least for '05-'06 double cabs, the wiring is ..."

Like, in my '06 AC, green wire is constant feed for lights-on mode tail lights. Green/red stripe is brake light. White/black is ground (that's pretty universal)

Hopefully you used a sealed splice under that heat shrink. Exposed copper tends to corrode over time.

Open those plastic connections and fill them with dielectric grease.. It will save you a lot of headaches in the future.
