    Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been posted before but I could find nothing.

Ordered my Tundra Ltd TRD off road last may and its finally supposed to arrive here in Canada sometime at the end of March/early April.

I did the math and it would be cheaper for me to fly to San Antonio and drive it back to Edmonton, Alberta than what the dealer charges for freight and PDI. Not to mention the road trip would be awesome!

This leads to my question as to whether a guy can pick up the truck from the factory? Obviously this would take some doing from the stealership and Toyta Canada. Has anybody done this?

    Thanks all.

Why not buy it from a dealership in San Antonio. Just a thought. I know it’s not the answer your looking for.

You can not buy from a dealership and then pick it up from the port/factory. You will either have to pick it up from said dealership or coordinate shipping with them. To my understanding, they have to process your vehicle if you buy it from them (ie. It has to arrive for them to inspect).

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
Most if not all vehicles go on a train ride to a "port" to get options installed. Mine went to a facility in Lordstown Ohio on a railcar, got unloaded and had the bedliner, tailgate lock and they tossed in the box of floormats and the owners manuals. Slap on a yellow sticker to further reduce my already dismal payload fhen load it up on a semi trailer for the final trip to the selling dealer.

I also believe it's illegal to order directly from manufacturers due to franchise laws.

I don’t even think Toyota employees can pick up off the line. They might have to have a dealer do the transaction.

Thanks for the replies all. I should clarify a couple things quick. My intention wasnt to bypass the dealership, just the freight fees. I figured that the factory may be a no go but wasn't sure if maybe a local San Antonio dealership would be able to facilitate things between my dealership and the factory. Thought maybe someone on here would've had a similar idea.

Just the thought of a 2200 mile road trip in 4-5 days might be an adventure. See parts of the world I wouldn't otherwise see in my life.
    Thanks again all.

Sure would be nice to buy direct, dealership middlemen are always a pain. Hopefully one day we'll be able to order a build and have it delivered to our homes, but that day is not here yet.

This. Companies like Ford have been chattering about it over the past year or so though... Trying to jump onto the Tesla bandwagon. Sell their vehicles direct, and just use the dealerships as service centers.

Depends on how the employee is purchasing. If they're leasing through the employee program, we get to pick between getting it at HQ or picking it up from a dealer.

If we're buying the car, we have to pick it up from a dealer.

but @Dan240, you have to purchase/pick up through a dealer, there is no way to get it from the factory. Dealers still have to to PDI and sale prep, and the distributor still has to install any port accessories.

GM does something like this with Corvette Museum delivery in Bowling Green. But IIRC that actually costs extra. Where would Toyota put the Tundra museum? ;-)

i know during PDI, they have to initialize a lot of things to baseline. seats, mirrors, compass, charge the battery, etc.

on seats and mirrors if they dont initialize them, the mirrors dont know where the limits are to move and the seats dont know how far forward/back they can travel.

You looking for the BMW experience @Dan240

Take delivery of it in a massive showroom; watch it come down in a glass elevator and everyone in the joint is clapping; ooo-ing and awwing?

    That’d be sweet

My GTA moment won’t be taking a car from the manufacturer lot…it will involve high heels/mini skirt and getting my money back lol
