Somebody educate me on why I should consider this as a topper option.

I get that it is made of top quality materials and has advantages over softopper like being able to support a roof rack or RTT, but at $2300 I just don't see it making sense.

This brand of topper appeals to some for sure and has a calling.

I’m a Softopper person myself due to the following:

    - No need for a full time topper.
    - Easy setup. Usually took me a couple minutes to set up.
    - Add a truck bedz air mattress, you can have a pretty comfy night sleep, if you have a DC or 5’3” or shorter for the CM.
    - Keeping items dry and out of the weather. I have owned several, and never had water get inside the bed.
    - Cost

When you say you are a "softopper" person are you referring to the specific brand or to soft tops in general?

I get all the reasons you listed and is why I am also considering one. But...The $750 price point for softopper brand seems fairly reasonable for what you get, but the Can-Back just seems out of line to me compared to a hard top option. It gives you more versatility than a hard top but seems to me it should be priced somewhere between the softopper and hard shell, not more than the hard shell. Best price I have been quoted is $1700 for a 6.5 ' leer hard top. Maybe it's just where they need to be price wise to make a profit with the quality of materials they are using, I dunno. Just seems like they won't make much headway into the market at $2300. Granted I'm new to the camper top market and maybe my ignorance is showing...?

I’m referring to the brand, but there’s other soft tops out here for sure.

There’s no way in hell I would spend 2300.00 on a Can-Back soft top.
Might as well get a RTT and mount system.

Wish they made a soft topper that converts to a tonneau cover.

Right, and that's my point. I get the soft shell concept, just not the Can-Back market position.
Maybe someone who owns one or someone from Can-back on the forum can chime in and make a case for it.

Now that would be a perfect world. Low profile, keep your bed clean and dry and just pop it up when you go camping!

I thought they went out business years ago. There was talk back then of someone buying their business and starting it all back up, but that was way before the RTT craze.

Anyway, I’ve seen both, the Can-backs and Soft-toppers in person. I haven’t seen a Canback in about 15 years, though, and that was on a 1st gen Tacoma. At the time, the original canbacks were of really high quality. They were expensive even back then, but the material and craftsmanship showed. I remember wanting one for my 1st gen Tacoma, but they stopped making them. Guess they came back or someone bought the rights to their name and product and started making them again.

Back in 2000, the original owners built a custom canback for my 88 4runner that I bobbed 12”. It was bad ass and there was nothing else on the market like it back then. I think I paid $1100 with no side windows. I cant believe the current prices. My son has a softopper on his 2nd gen Tundra and it is doing great and I will be picking one of them up. I am going to build a rack over the softopper to carry lumber and kayaks since softopper dosent have the inner framework to enable attaching racks.

I did build a custom one that was a clone of my canback, but for my bobbed 91 toyota truck. It turned out well, but I didnt attempt trying to add windows.

You can buy 3 Softoppers for the price of 1 Can-Bak...
