I have a 22 1794 with 52,000 miles( no issues) but getting worried. My wife and I travel a lot and we are getting hesitant about taking the Tundra out of the city for fear if an engine blow. Because of that we are thinking of trading the truck for some other vehicle. Will non Toyota dealers be willing to take the vehicle on trade if they are unable to sell it. Has anyone been able to trade with this safety recall that’s on the Tundras?

Don’t believe there’s a law about used car dealer selling vehicles with open recall. Only new car can’t be sold with open recall.

I did hear that certain dealer can’t sell them as Certified Preowned if there is an open recall.

Hell, my local Toyota dealer called me to trade my truck in. So I guess they looking for used truck to sell.

They can take the vehicle on trade, but they will be unable to sell it as a CPO and are strongly encouraged not to resell the vehicle with open recalls. The 24TA07 Engine Recall would not be the only Open Recall. You also probably have 23TA09 open.

Seems I saw some mention that the used truck could be sold to a private individual or a dealership. From what I read it can vary by state with regards to a dealership. I believe the dealership would have to inform the buyer of the recall. On the other hand from what I have read, a dealership can not sell a new vehicle under a safety recall.

I was in the same situation as you, wife was worried and I work away all the time. Tried a trade in at Local Chev dealer and they wouldn't touch it so we listed it privately and it was gone in a couple days. We were straight up honest with everyone that inquired and told them about the recall and nobody cared as long as it had warranty still.

Depends on the state. There is a federal law that prohibits selling new vehicles under recall. Some states have laws that extend the prohibition to used vehicles. For example in California dealers are prohibited from selling or leasing used vehicles with unresolved safety recalls unless the recall issue has been repaired. In other states, dealers must inform prospective buyers about any open (unrepaired) recalls and provide with information how the recall should be addressed.

Traded my ‘22 Tundra on June13th to a MN Chevy dealer. Shopped 5 dealers and two of them had $5,000 higher trade offers than the other three (one was the Toyota dealer). They all would take it but some were not as excited.
