Can I remove the rear wall of the cabin?

    Hi there
I would like to get an advantage of SUV for my tundra: connect directly the trunk (the bed) and the driver's cabin. So for accessing the bed I don't need to go out of the truck. This is especially useful for camping, when the bed is covered with the topper, and there is plenty of space throughout the truck for my stuff.

The rear wall window is not so big and convenient for me to slide in and out...

My concern is the rear cabin wall is not only for protection against weather. It might have some function in the overall stability of the cabin, supporting other walls and the roof, like if it was a house. So if I remove it it could be risky somehow. What do you think?

You'd be way ahead to just sell it and buy a 4runner

    Thanks for your reply
Sorry, I love my babe so much, won't get rid of that.
It gives me a rocket power on the road with 5.7 engine (which is not the case for 4runner.
Also, unlike 4runner I can put in the bed a very high topper, even a camper.
    Anyway thanks for your reply

Of course you can. Find a good fabricator and tell what you want done. They'll figure out how to reinforce the back portion of the cab and how to integrate it to the bed or camper shell. They might put a flexible seal between the cab and the camper shell to allow for flex or maybe not. And of course...$$$$$

We have a Chevy work truck that the rear portion of the cab was cut and a box was connected to it.

Winnebago did this back in the early 80's with Toyota 4x4 pickups, made the Trekker, it had a fiberglass rear section that was styled like a pickup with a topper. Remember seeing a few, and talked to Winnebago about doing my 83. If I recall it had a roll bar behind the seat added in t he new rear section.

It seems like watt roamer doesn't have access to the driver's cabin from the bed...

Thanks for the hint, I googled pictures of the trekker, it looks nice! Probably need to talk to Winnebago

That is my goal - to save some $ and diy, just to cover risks...

Check the build link in my signature.
I gotta imagine you'll need a fair amount of reinforcing and that tying the two together is gonna be either a weather-sealing nightmare or require you to fully fab a solid connection all the way around.

LOL...or buy a 2008 Sequoia and mod it out like your Tundra. Hell - maybe even find the body of a Sequoia and put it on the Tundra frame.

Sequoia wouldn't allow to put a camper or high topper on the back unless I cut it which is much more difficult...

What you're wanting is called a blow through/cut through. If it's cut out below the window. If it includes the window with the bottom cut out, it's called a walk through. These were common in the mini truck scene. I've had several over the years. I used to compete in stereo competitions.

You can see it in the first pic here. There is a little hole to crawl through. Might give you an idea of what to do.

Right, the bottom cut below the window. Window can be easily removed without cutting. Thanks for the term, now I can Google more
