Periodically while on apple carplay listing to music (Spotify) it skips almost like an old CD used to if it you hit a bump or something. It isn’t a network issue with bad cell reception. It’s on a 23 limited. I can’t reproduce the skip it just happens so often so I can’t report it to Toyota. It doesn’t happen when Spotify plays on my phone or through any other Bluetooth connections. Just curious if anyone else has the issue etc.

It will be interesting to see if GM goes though with dropping CarPlay and Android Auto.

You can try. But it’s really a waste of time. Toyotas oem headunits have always had connectivity issues.

Mine does the same while using Spotify. I’ve tried changing audio quality, gapless playback and other streaming settings but nothing helps. It happens so randomly it couldn’t be diagnosed by the dealer. I always think I’m getting a phone call when it happens.

Yes, 23 Limited. Doesn't do it with Pandora but does it with Spotify.

I’m shocked I lose connection occasionally when my phone is in my pocket vs around the center console. Signal is definately weak.

Glad I’m not the only one. I guess we’re sol since we can’t duplicate it on demand. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Does it make a difference if you plug your phone in to the USB?

I don't use Spotify, only Apple Music, but I've never had a skipping issue.

Just ran across an article today about GM's announcement earlier this year that they are going to dump CP and AA support on their electric vehicles. The article is on Motor Trend if you want to read the whole thing but here is an interesting quote from GM that relates to this thread:

"According to Babbitt, CarPlay and Android Auto have stability issues that manifest themselves as bad connections, poor rendering, slow responses, and dropped connections. And when CarPlay and Android Auto have issues, drivers pick up their phones again, taking their eyes off the road and totally defeating the purpose of these phone-mirroring programs. Solving those issues can sometimes be beyond the control of the automaker."

Thanks. I think that’s a lame excuse to force you into their own paid services model with no other option around it. Cash cow for them. Other brands considering the same.

Agreed. It's only on their EV's for now but you know they will eventually do it for everything else. Article said you get their service for 8 years but then have to pay for it. Lame.

I seldom use the USB because of the location. Wish Toyota would have put it up by the power outlet.

Have a 3hr drive tomorrow morning so I'll give the USB a try.

I agree. I was infuriated when I discovered I had to pay for a subscription to get basic navigation on my Tundra. Then I discovered CarPlay and Google Maps work great, so I simmered down. I think GM will piss a lot of customers off if they eliminate CP and AA.

Just a note on USB. Only the port on the dash is connected to the head unit. (power and data) The rest in the console are power only from the regular 12v harness.
