Welp, it happened to me. Got my cats stolen over the weekend. Toyota is saying 4 month minimum wait on parts. I've tried to source some after market cats with no luck so far. Looking to see if anyone has come up with a good way to get back on the road. Truck only has 21k miles on it soI'm not trying to ruin the warranty, but I need this truck for work. Any and all ideas are appreciated! yall stay safe, and get some cat guards!

For those interested, location is north austin.

Someone on here put magnaflow cats on. I think it worked, then CEL, then worked again. Search for the thread and it might have had the model for the cats.

Does you know good when you leave the house, and most states it is illegal to shoot someone for stealing property.

I didn’t say I would shoot anyone over a catalytic converter, but the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a round has a remarkable deterrent effect on anyone who is not incredibly stupid. If I’m not home, cat plates are just that, a deterrent, nothing more.

I hear ya...no pun intended. It's a crazy world that we are living in and the crime is just as bad. Cat plates are a deterrent for the quick in and out thieves.

No suggestions, but just had the same happen to a 2017 with 4.6 V8. Ordered all parts through Toyota and had the truck back in a month. Truck is now covered with Talons skid plates.

Yep, with magnaflow I had a cel that came back like 10 times. I just kept clearing it and it stopped coming up after a few days. I think the mf need a lil carbon in them before they work proper. They also smell like hot dog ass for the 1st couple days.

    Can you drive without one?
sounds like you get the engine light or any other issues besides the noise?
I assume you lose oxygen sensors and that will mess things up.
I never researched this but need to prepare just in case.

My shop put in Napa parts (Walker) a couple of weeks ago. No CEL yet, but I don’t have many miles on it yet.

My mechanic said you can burn exhaust valves by driving without them.

As long as the precat O2 sensors are still there (they control fuel mixture) you can weld in a straight pipe(s). The post cat O2 sensor only purpose in life is to determine if the catalytic converter is working, nothing else. You have plenty of backpressure through the pipes and muffler to mitigate any exhaust valve issues.

Just an update in case it helps anyone:

Magnaflow's seem to be out of stock at the moment, at least according to the website. I called some 4x4 shops, they all said they have to put OEM parts on it until 8 years or 80k miles, so they'd be at the behest of Toyota back orders as well. One recommended a local muffler shop, I called and he had stuff that would work and to bring it on by. I took it there yesterday, and 3100 dollars later i got 4 new cats welded on (pics of work included, passenger side only). The owner also drives a tundra which helped ease my mind, and even brought me into the shop to take pics for insurance. He noted how common this was becoming on tundra's and prius, and that all 4 cats were gone along with the o2 sensors. He was able to get the parts to replace everything with a next day turn around. I drove it about 20 miles today, no CEL so far. Very satisfied customer all things considered.

I asked him about the cat guards, the valhalls in particular and he said it was a good idea, but he also said i was now lower risk. Since these cats aren't toyota OEM, they don't have as much value on the black market. I'm still thinking of getting the valhalla regardless, what do yall think?

Even if they aren’t as valuable and the thief knows that, which I’d guess he doesn’t, once he takes the time to crawl under your truck he will steal it anyway. Get the cat shields.

I am sot sure if you still have the cats but I need both sides for a 2019 5.7L crewmax. Im in a bind and would really be interested in taking them off your hands.

This is the real fix you need. Cat shields.

Does anyone know if the magnaflow cats fit both bed sizes? I have a crewmax. Website says it's for longer bed.

I don't hear much about cat thefts around DFW these days. Not sure if the news sources have just lost interest or if new laws are helping. I hope it is the latter.

Cat theft is definitely way down here in Texas. If my cats get stolen (again), I'm putting on SPD High Flow catted downpipes and not bothering with OEM.
