Okay, so I have a weird one. I have noticed my floor board/ center console getting warm and I have no idea if this is normal. I have 2017 crewmax limited off road I bought used a few weeks ago with 57k miles. I drove it home from the dealer and parked it. Before I drove it again I purchased some Talon front and rear cat shields because this forum was scarring the crap out of me with the stolen cat horror stories.

So idk of this is normal for the tundra, or caused by the cat shields but after about 30 minutes of driving I can feel the warmth radiating through my right pant leg. I took some temp reading. First is before and second is after 1 hour of driving. At the 35 minute mark I took a temp while driving and it read 112. I couldn't get a pic because you know...driving down the road.

Do you guys think these cat shields are causing accesive heat build up?

My Tundra has a cat shield and I haven't noticed any increased temps. Our summers are pretty hot too, around 105+. Did you happen to notice if your factory heat shields were still in place?

*I don't have the rear shield though. It would be interesting to pull the rear one and check again. For science

I didn't take a thermometer to it but I took some road trips in 100+ degree heat for 5+ hours each way and didn't notice heat and I often rest my leg against that. I have the TRD skid plate and front and rear steel cat plates.

Sucks you are seeing that and hope there is an easy solution.

@Talon2006 do you have any input?

Are you doing a lot of idling or sitting at lights? I cant imagine that much heat build up from the shields during actual driving. There should be enough air flow under the truck to keep things relative.

With that said, I don't have cat shields so I'm not speaking from experience.

Everything looked stock under the truck.
I do not idle very much. I notice this on my hour commute to and from work. Speed limits range from 60-70 mph 50/50 hwy/country road.

Guys, I am not saying that the cat shields are causing this, it's just kind of strange it's happening in the area that shields are located. It could be completely unrelated

Well, you could always 100% rule them out by taking them off and doing your same drive and see what happens. Not the most fun option but still an option.

I read your response but are you sure your heat shields are in place?
There is also a silver fabric-like material behind some of them.

Don't ask why I have pics of mine....:eek2::cool:

I don’t have a thermometer like that but I’ve noticed the same issue you have on my 2020. It’s not consistent for me, but I remember on a long trip this past summer thinking that it felt as though the heater was on. My heat shields are in place and I do have Valhalla front and rear cat shields.

All the heat shields are in place. This is best pic I could get laying on the ground and sticking the phone behind the cat shields
