I think they have historically done mid cycle refresh, so not really unheard of

They usually seem to take 6-7 years to do a refresh though.

not mid cycle refresh which is just smaller tweaks and changes , nothing major

then every 7 is a bigger change

    2000, 2007, 2014, 2021 ( Covid delay till 2022)

between those were smaller mid cycle refreshes

Nope. 2014 was the mid cycle on the Gen 2.

    2007-2013 I don’t think they changed shit.

The tow hook thing, I don’t know. Why would they redesign the front bumper fully, when they could just add tow hooks similar to nytops style

no it wasn't, there were things in between, small but still mid cycle refreshes

example. like in 2010 (first mid cycle refresh), they removed the sliding console lid, and tweaked some other things.

2014 was the next model in Toyotas mind, obviously we debate that, but it was not a mid cycle refresh in 2014.

toyota typical gen cycle (the dates listed are model years (MY) not production years (which usually start in august of the previous year)

    1. 3-4 year is considered mid cycle refresh
    2. normally gens last 7 MY (model years)

that all went out the window in the mid 2010's on the bof vehicles.

tundra went like 14 yrs between gens:

    1G xk30/xk40
    2000-2006

    2G xk50
    2007-2021
2014 was consider the mid cycle refresh

3G xk70 (dont know why they skipped xk60)
    2022-present

4runner went 15 yrs between gens

    predecessor (toyota trekker)
    n30
    1981-1983

    1G n60
    1984-1989

    2G n120/n130
    1990-1995

    3G n180
    1996-2002

    4G n210
    2003-2009

    5G n280
    2010-2024
mid cycle was 2014 (since they were expecting to switch to a new gen in 2018 but was put on hold)

    6G n410
    2025-???

    tacoma

    1G n140/n150/n160/n170/n190

Here what I still can't understand. Tim, the YT guy, mentions up coming things that should have been implemented from the get-go. Toyota had a clean sheet of paper with a previous gen that they could pick and choose what worked and what didn't. Tow-hooks, bumper step, trimming, etc. He mentioned Kaizen, Japanese word for improvement, well they need to teach the engineers here what that means. And I was waiting to see when Toyota would give us GPF, let's keep complicating things because they are working out so great for the diesel community.

Yeah it's 100% EPA. I was just wondering when Toyota would bring it. First I hear that the LS500 has it. Is that for all worldwide LS? Ford recently installed it on one of their gas engines. Time will tell how good or bad it is. Our fleet diesel Ford trucks always have issues with them and they aren't cheap.

Addressing fit and finish, plus fulfilling TSBs, would satisfy most consumers.

I'd bet if someone had access or was able to dig deep enough, there is probably some official Toyota literature referring to MY 2014-2021 as "xk60" (or at least MY 2014)

    welp. There you go.

Makes sense, since (I believe) it was updated to the Tundra Gen 2 platform/ frame similarities in 2008? 2009?
