Can the "old timers" share the whole story behind Ryan Gregg (who seems like an excellent resource) being banned from this forum? I am seeing his name in passing on numerous threads but cannot find out what happened, exactly...

From all the newbies out there - thank you!

Yep.. this is another reason why an explanation (for the newbies) is needed. I have no idea what this comment is supposed to mean....

    Cliff Notes-

Guy "in the know" posted TSB's and screen shots of proprietary Toyota documentation. Cease and desist followed from Toyota. He stopped and then did it again. Another C&D from Toyota that said he needed to be booted again and maybe the forum should be booted too. After 2 seconds of consideration by management, he and his content were tossed.

Some morned his loss, others grew weary of his drama and always saying a "newsflash" re. Gen 3 issues was just around the corner. I was in the later group.

There is/was a stop sale for possible damage to right side tires. It seem something on the line was cutting the side walls?

God, I've wanted, but not needed, a newer Tundra ever since this generation was announced, but now wonder if Toyota will EVER work out all the bugs. No hurry....

Ryan was an excellent resource here and still is elsewhere. IMO, the perception that Ryan was stirring the pot came mostly from denialists and/or Toyota PR people posting here and trying to control the narrative when R & D and QC failures were discussed. Ryan was certainly “in the know” and when Toyota began to own up to the design failures / QC issues that results in these motors eating main bearings, Ryan shared information that Toyota didn’t want disclosed to the public. That “in the know” information made Ryan’s posts and threads particularly interesting for me at least. And having followed along as a future 3rd gen owner, I still don't believe the narrative that these motors are failing due to machining debris. That theory doesn’t explain the continued failures after new cleaning procedures in manufacturing the motors were implemented; and that theory doesn’t explain the quiet mid year change in part number for the main bearings after the recall was issued. I assume the new long blocks have updated bearings and possibly other changes and they should be mostly trouble free. The same goes for the 2025s, I assume they’ll be fine. Time will tell….

Yup, Toyota not being transparent about the situation ... It's affecting long time Toyota owners like me to look elsewhere, but where do you go?

I bought based on the Reputation of the Gen 2's, got a Gen 3 in Sept 22. It is a nice truck but when Toyota issued a safety recall on the engine, it greatly hampered the use of the truck. Then with the new engine coming in who knows when but recent posts seem to indicate as far out as Q3 of 2025. We decided to get out of it and move on to a domestic.

We had tried to get a new Tundra and even a hybrid, but Toyota didn't want our extremely low mile 22 as a trade. We found a better reception with GM so we went there. I am sure there are going to be issues and I hope we get a better treatment with GM.

Note: I am referring to Toyota Canada and our local dealership. These guys are not geared up for customer service.

I know it's way too late now but - reputation or no reputation - buying first year model year (in our case: any 2022 Gen 3 Tundra) is almost always a risky proposition.

Ya, I thought almost 1 year would be enough (we were one month before the 23 model release). We have been away from Toyota for a long time but took the leap and got a heap!

The other thing that was grating on us was the actual payload number. We were working with the 1940 lbs. that was being advertised when they showed a Platinum towing a double axle Airstream, we thought that is pretty good. But ours door sticker said 1390 lbs. This just didn't make us happy being that far off. There is always the fine print but I don't know of any one who has this 1940 lbs. payload. The most we know of after doing a poll was 1,550 lbs.

So we have the uneasy feeling that we have been given a pack of lies dressed up like a truck!
