Drove down to the cabin this morning and about 1 hour 45 minutes into the trip.
The traction control off text appeared in the dash, the check engine light came on, and the truck won’t shift past 4th gear.

Truck is running nice and smooth with normal power and the truck is shifting as it should and smoothly it just won’t shift past 4th.
Even if I go over to the manual shifter it will not go past 4th.

Of course I am now about 2 hours away from anything and my ODBII scanner is at the house.

Anyone seen this combination of issues before?

First of all - love the avi. Second of all, recently had similar symptoms in my 2014 5.7 with 185k. I'm far from a mechanical expert, but since I have recent firsthand experience:

From my searching at the time, it sounds like your truck is putting itself into what folks were referring to as "limp mode" which could mean a handful of things (could do a forum search on this). The error code that mine read hinted that I might need a new "automatic transmission output shaft speed sensor". Bought a new one at AutoZone for around $130 (I got the more expensive one), very easy to access under the truck, one bolt, remove, replace with new one. Truck immediately went back to normal and it hasn't come.back in 5k miles of usage since then. Hope this helps some.

That code seems right, yes. In retrospect, it didn't tell me the exact part, obviously. I don't have my printout any longer. Sounds like you'll be in business with that part, though. I was in a time crunch to tow a TT the next day so had to pay a premium in store. Good luck.

My code reader calls it the Input/Turbine Speed Sensor

    Got it swapped out.
That lil bugger sure is in a crap spot. The output sensor is much easier to get to.

Seems to solve the problem. Driving the interstate tomorrow so we shall see.
    Fingers crossed.

Had to remove my skid plates so that sucked but have a serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulley to install as well so they had to come off any way.

Wanted to add to this since it seems to be common, I'm experiencing it now. My check engine will come on, traction control off. That seems to happen with no rhyme or reason. I've pulled the negative terminal and reset it, sometimes it will go a day, sometimes a week before coming back on. I've even had both those prompts up, hit some bumps and they go away. Strange.

The other day I had both prompts up, my truck stalled like 5 times leaving my home on a very rutted / bumpy dirt road. I got to the pavement and no issues, no stalling coming back either. The strangest. FWIW I've checked my battery terminals just in case, I also just cleaned my MAF sensor so who knows if that will help. Might need to get it scanned.

Very strange, yeah. To confirm, when this happens, is it limiting you to no higher than 4th gear also?

I don't think so. I should pay more attention.

Just had this happen to us and codes seemed to indicate a sensor issue. Garage that we took it to actually realized that the oil filter was not assembled correctly after our oil change last week which triggered a fail safe in the truck and caused the check engine light and the traction control system to shut down. That happens to prevent the engine from damage. Fixed the oil filter and the issue is completely resolved. Hope this helps someone!

Had the exact same issue, mice ate through a wiring harness. Can’t remember the exact part, but it cost about $1000.00 CAD.

Having a similar issue. First the vehicle stability light and ABS light were on. Then the message "traction control off" came on the screen with the check engine light. In addition it would not shift unless I put it in neutral and then back in drive. The dealer has already changed the brake switch and I am still having the issue. The code it is popping is P0724 which translates out to the brake switch circuit B. After researching it i have found that it could be the switch, the harness, or all the way down to the torque converter locking solenoid. Any previous experience will help!

This absolutely helped! We did an oil change 2 days before a road trip. 300 miles in on a 1600 mile trip, the check engine light came on, traction control turned off and I lost acceleration. I got it back after turning the truck off and back on and headed back home. That lasted for about 25 miles before it did it again. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and it ran fine for about 110 miles then did it again. I reset the computer 1 more time before making it home. We dropped the oil filter after reading this post and getting a p0012 code that when googled mentioned a possible oil issue. The filter was a twisted and squished mess. Apparently the tube that attaches to the filter housing (after market pos) got tossed with the old filter on the oil change before the most recent one. I changed filter manufacturers between the two oil changes. The old one has reinforcement of the center hole on both ends. The new one didn't. The old filter held up. The new filter did not. Thank you for this post!
