Hello i was driving from north arkansas today from family farm to tulsa oklahoma

my check engine light came on. I have a 2011 tundra 4wd. About a year and a half ago someone tried to steal my cat and sawed through about half way and then left. I got that repaired. i would appreciate your feedback on how i should proceed with it. I had something similar happen on my 2002 tundra years ago bank 2 and it was o2 sensor i replaced. Thanks

First thing I would do is look under there and make sure the wiring for the O2’s is good and nothing got damaged.

Then if all is good, I would clear the codes and swap the rear O2 sensors to see if it comes back and changes banks with the sensor.

When u say rear does that mean both driver and passenger side?
    I stopped
At oreillys and they said that code 420 bank 1 is the upstream right 02 sensor. It was a kid and he wasnt sure what upstream meant.
Bausch o2 sensor was 320 from oreilly

Should be 22mm (7/8”) with an open end for the wiring.

Upstream should be BEFORE the Catalytic Converter on the exhaust closest to the engine.

I’m dealing with the same problem with my 03 4Runner. I’m getting po420 bank1. I believe it’s going to be the o2 sensor on bank 1. I ran a test and I had a o2 sensor fail and o2 heater failed also. I bought a sensor from OReilys and was about to put it in but wanted to double check part number because the sensor looked different from the one I took out. I pull up Rockauto just to check part numbers and I was shocked. I paid with tax $101 at OReilys in town. They had the same one and others for under $40 at Rockauto. I ended up putting old O2 sensor back in and returned the new one back to OReilys. What a ripoff. I’m going to order some online. I was going to change o2 sensor in bank one first that is upstream on the drivers side that you access behind driver side tire on my 4Runner. I also picked up some cat cleaners to run through my tank to see if that helps too. I found a picture online and will post it if I can fine it again that show the location of the o2 sensors.

check this thread out for some helpful info.

Upstream oxygen sensors are before the cats, they adjust air/fuel for the engine. Downstream oxygen sensors are after the cats and monitor the emissions exiting the converters. A p0420/p0430 code means the catalyst has degraded and is allowing increased emissions.

I was getting the same code. I replaced the oxygen sensor on bank 1 sensor 1 and ran a jug of catalytic cleaner with just a few gallons of gas in the tank and Reset code. I got the same code again next time I drove it even though it showed that the oxygen sensor was good. I cleared code again and unhooked battery for awhile. That seemed to do the trick. Just drove 4 hours and no more codes popping up.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...53,exhaust+&+emission,oxygen+(o2)+sensor,5132 This should be it. It will be upstream left I believe. The one I just replaced was on my 4Runner. I just looked up the ones for a tundra. You can click the info button and it will tell you what models it fits. I guess the walker ones are the OEM ones.

Replacing the oxygen sensors unfortunately will not remedy your issue. Catalytic converter monitors take a while to set so even thought the check engine light hasn't come on yet it most likely will again. It might take a while. But i would hate to see you waste time and money on oxygen sensors. The catalytic converter is below efficiency level and will need to be replaced. If not now then sooner or later.

Anybody estimate what a cat converter would cost to install?

Ok i took my tundra into dealer
They ran some tests and said the driver side cat had failed. Its not an o2 sensor.
To teplace it would be around 2000 installed and its not a weld they dont do that. Its the entire replacement pipe for both cats on driver side.
Is it true on a tundra u cant cut one of the cats out on driver side but u could out any of the other three that fail?
    I didnt
    Understand this

i also got a quote from a reputable muffler shop and it would 1200 using an oem part and the teplacement of both cats on driver side
    Thiughts? Thank you
