the only way to get better mileage is to watch your right foot carefully, or my personal favorite, say eff it, buy a hybrid, and take your household average gas mileage through the roof.

Lower the vehicle. Get smaller, lighter, lower rolling resistance tires and maintain proper air pressure. Keep the vehicle cleaned and waxed. Keep the vehicle under 60mph. Reduce weight by not carrying anything unnecessary in the vehicle. Pull up the instant MPG app on the infotainment and use the information to help understand how your inputs and driving style negatively affect the MPGs. Adjust your style to maximize said MPGs. Boom, best MPG possible in a Tundra.

So Toyota just decided to sell a truck with terrible gas mileage to allow some aftermarket company to get tons of money improving gas mileage?

No chip or flash is going to help your mileage. Best mileage you are ever going to get is in a completely stock truck. Anything else you do to it is only going to make it worse.

I call BS! Nobody has the self-control to stay out of the throttle with a DD exhaust :)

I thought there was something some months ago that made it so you could do up to 21s?

Whatever this forum told me to do
    Let's play a game.

if there was a "chip" that improved mpg, what variables would this "chip" be changing/augmenting?

and would these changes be good/advantageous for the drivetrain?

I remember years ago they sold a "chip" that plugged in between the harness and the AIT sensor. It was a resistor that changed the values of the air intake temp your Computer read. Your computer thought it was 30 to 40 degrees cooler than actual and would adjust fuel trims and timing to compensate. I made a few when Radio Shack was still around. made a little difference in power but never in mileage.

my point here....folks get all balled up about putting a S/C on the truck, yet, will easily install some janky crap that leans out the truck.

    putting it in harm's way.

I don't know, that is why I said it is not an option for OP's truck. My understanding is the same as yours, up to 2017s.

As stated above, and about a brazillion times before, you need to stay stock and drive like a grandma if you want to see anything that closely resembles decent mileage in a Tundra.

With 34” tires that are heavy, some lift, 7,000+ pound daily weight, gears, and a tune, my long term mileage is now 13.7 mpg. I can get a fuzz over 16 if I’m real nice to it on a (60 mph) rural highway with no traffic.

I just remind myself that it’s still better than my 2005 3/4-ton Suburban with a 6.0 gasser. All stock, it averaged just shy of 13 mpg for the 120K miles we owned it. Best ever was 15.5.

I’m around 13.5 tuned on 34’s. Worst mileage I’ve ever had from a half ton but at least it’ll last forever right?
