Good day, I am in the process of shopping for winter tires for my '22 SR5 Off Road. I plan on staying on 265/70R18, hesitating between Blizzzak LTs or Toyo Observe GSi which I had in the last on passenger car and was very satisfied with

    Two questions:

    1. I have various options of offset for the wheels, what is the max/min should I be looking for? I seen that the stock offset is between 55-60mm.

    2. Should I even care for TPMS sensors? Will the absence of TPMS sensor have impact on others systems (VSC, or any annoying cycling warning beside the light on the dashboard). If I purchase aftermarket TPMS sensor for the winter wheels will the truck recognize them or I will need a visit at the dealer?

    Thanks!!

    Hey!
Unfortunately I can’t really answer your questions. I’d try to stay as close to oem as possible as if you go wider you throw salt/sand all over your truck and wreck the paint. I did this by accident with my suv.. when I told the shop I wanted the same wheel stance.

I would get tpms installed. You will get a low pressure warning light without them.

Id go on offerup Or Facebook marketplace and get someone’s Tundra takeoffs or similar. They often will have the tpms included, especially if they are the steel rims.

Unless you’re running an E load tire in the summer I wouldn’t go Blizzak LT, that’s more for 1 ton trucks. Instead the DMV2 is an excellent choice, but really any SL/XL winter tire is better than not using a winter tire. I used two sets of DMV2s on Tundras and others on other SUVs and they are great all around, main con is tread life is below average.

Also I’d recommend Nokian hakkapeliitta. Unreal good in snow and ice. I have the studded ones and have driven all over alberta where we get deep snow and lots of ice.

So if I get this right.. let's say the OEM offset is 60mm, would a 30mm offset get the wheels to "poke out" or in?

    What's the concern with offset?
Just get a cheap set of OEM spec wheels and put winter tires on.

I can't seem to find cheap wheels/rims with the exacts specs. Thats why im trying to understand the effect of a slightly different offset and get wheels that will not throw sand etc on the side of the truck.

That's a good deal indeed but a little far from home :)

I am also looking at steel rims but they go for about 125$ (CAD) each, and cheap aftermarket alloy wheel about 170.

Not sure how much aesthetics matter, but I already have one cheap steel wheel with the spare. I'm considering ordering 3 more and having 4 winter tires mounted.
I can always keep a summer wheel in the bed as a spare and vice versa. Saves the cost of one wheel.
    $125 CAD x3 isn't horrible. Better than $170 x4.
And you know it fits perfectly.

Going this process right now. Don’t even have my truck yet!

nokian Hakkapalita. Hands down. personally I’m looking for oem wheels. Debating tpms sensors. My Nissan winters don’t have em. I just tape over the warning light. Not sure of the new tundras have an issue due to all the fancy safety sensors now a days?

Unless you absolutely love your stock wheels, I usually turn the stock wheels into my winter set and purchase new wheels for my summer set. As for tires, the Nokian Hakkepellitas and the Bridgestone Blizzak DMV2's are excellent winter tires. I have used the Blizzak DMV2's on every Tundra I have owned and never had a complaint about their performance. If Nokian had my tire size before I purchased the Blizzak's I would have chosen them, but they didn't and I have been using Blizzak's ever since.

My only issue with blizzaks is whatever makes them awesome is only in the first 55% of the tread. After that they are “meh” winter tires, whereas nokian (and most others) their tread compound is consistent all the way.

nokian is always my 1st choice. Blizzaks are a close second.

    Great fishing in Kwee-bec.

I can't offer any info on the Blizzaks LT but always used them on previous cars for winter months.
