I just put brand new calipers, pads and rotors on my 08 Sequioa. Left side is quiet, right side makes a clicking/ticking sound that corresponds with vehicle speed. It makes the same sound regardless of brake pressure, the same noise continues whether applying brakes or not.

I jacked the wheel up and spun it by hand, it isn’t touching the heat shield at all. The pads make a very slight noise sometimes when I spin by hand but I can’t imagine it is the clicking I hear, and I would think it would go away when applying brakes.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

1.) Jack up the front spin the wheel by hand. (No noise check for rocks in tread)
2.) take tire off, put lugs back on spin rotor by hand. (No noise tire interference)
3.) while spinning by rotor by hand stick finger carefully on upper pad ears of both inner and outer. (No noise pad slap/rattle i.e poor part fitment)
4.) remove caliper and hang it with slack on the line, remove rotor inspect for foreign derbies in the inner hat. Rotate hub by hand. (No noise was foreign derby or poor fitment of rotor on hub)
    5. Inspect wheel bearing for smooth turning or if it feels gritty inside while turning, if not could be a CV axel. Reinstall all and tug inward and out ward on tire at 12 n 6 to check play.

if after step one the noise went away but there is no rocks or derby stuck in tire could be a few things like strut top hat bushing or another type of bushing in suspension but normally the other type of bushings would cause a vibration or shake of some sort. Also check front drive shaft U joints for slop (assuming its a 4wd model)

if you can a video of the sound would help.
Also milage and is it stock or modified suspension and tires?

Not just a rock stuck in the tire treads, or something unrelated to the brake?

Thanks for the responses! It’s an 08 SR5 4wd with 5.7 and 119k. I had to replace the caliper since the brake pad pins were welded with rust into the old one. I beat the pins pretty hard with a 3lb sledge but I can’t imagine I damaged the CV or wheel bearing, plus they make no noise when I spin the tire by hand.

I’m going to take the rotor off and check the hub surface when I get home, but I even wire brushed the hub before installing the new rotor. I thought for sure the heat shield was hitting the rotor when I first heard it, but it’s all clear.

Another thought, make sure there aren’t any stick-on wheel weights rubbing on the new caliper.

Funny you say that, I was just thinking that could be the issue, there is pretty tight clearance on the caliper inside the wheel, great thought!
