Hello,i enjoy the forum and read daily for all the good info but i don't post alot! I have a 2018 tundra with 16k on it ,out of warranty of course!! The last few weeks i have heard a clunking noise from the rear, sounds like the drivers side, that occurs when the truck is off camber or turning real sharp'
I have checked the drive shaft and looked for any obvious signs of a problems but nothing.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard of an issue like this and where i could start looking to pin point it?I don't want to take it to dealer as it doesn't do it all the time and id rather not deal with them..
    Thanks!!

Anything rolling around in the bed? Spare tire loose in cradle? Shocks tight? Loose lug nuts from wheel theft attempt?

Do you have a trailer hitch installed. The cheap one for my fishing boat rattles and it took me a little while to figure out.

Have someone drive you around with you in the bed to see if you can hear it. 16K miles on a three year old truck should still be under warranty from Toyota.

It never does it when driving normal Seems as tho it only happens when truck flexes when driven on uneven surface. It's strange and very annoying

You know, I had my wheel locks key in the console safe rolling around when my truck was new and I thought something was broken suspension wise. Didn't sound like it was inside the truck at all. Was a lound unusual thump on turns. Thought it was front suspension falling apart. Not a fun thirty minutes driving around in the dark trying to figure out what happened and worries that at any moment it was going to hit the pavement. Moral of the story, check in the console and back seat floor.

if it’s off camber noise, jack up one side rear or one side front to hear where’s coming from

I had the same thing happen with D-cell batteries rattling inside of a Maglight flashlight. Had a good laugh at that one.

Seriously, I'd check the rear shocks and spare tire first.

If you have a rear sway bar check the bolts. Had this happen when my truck was pretty new it would clunk every time the truck would rock over uneven ground. It was the bolts on lower sway bar links.
My bad ...had installed them without torquing properly.

    Worth a try.

Funny you brought that up,I have a 2018 with 15.000 miles and when I leave my driveway or turn going out of a parking lot I also hear a slight clunk but I don't think it's anything but I will bring it to toyotas attention next time I bring it in , friggin weird ,,I bet it's the same sound" shouldn't your truck still be under warranty?

2018 crewmax. Does the same thing when going down a slanted part of our yard while turning. Now it is a little steep but I haven't been able to figure it out. 28k miles on ours.

If it’s frame rust, or drivetrain issue. It’s still under warranty, but most dealer gonna tell u it’s cause by other things

I would check the u-bolts, leaf springs bushings and bolts and sway bar bushings and bolts.

I have a similar issue...When backing into the garage and the passenger side rear tire makes contact with the lip in the slab before the drivers side does, I hear a clunk coming from the rear. If the tires make contact at the same time, no clunk.

I had this issue after I rotated my tires same darn noise you guys speak of just two weeks ago. Pulling in and out of my driveway over the little lip and turning I’d head clunk clunk clunk or even slowing turning in a parking lot which never made noise before rotating the tires.

After maybe 1,000 miles it went away though.

Seemed like jacking up the truck pushes something out of line and needs time to settle back into its place.

Well at least for me it went away. It was super annoying for a truck to do that with 7k on it.

my buddy recently had the same issue on his sierra with about 30k miles. we had looked at the leaf springs pretty closely and didnt' see any issues. he took it to the dealer and they lubed the leaf springs and now it's gone. I'd get under there with some wd40 and just spray every metal-to-metal spot. can't hurt.
