So, I have been hearing a clunking sound coming from the left front end of the truck.
It usually happens when I put it reverse and back it up.
I have researched and read online and did some various tests on the vehicle itself to try to isolate the origin of the sound.
Before I start investing in any maintenance parts, I figure I run it by you guys and see if anyone had a similar problem and where the cause and/or solution was to the issue

    Thanks in Advance.

I'm interested in this as well.
I torqued my lower control arms and cams and it seemed to help.
but i if drive forward for a while, then back into a parking spot, the truck will pop and then be fine forward or back.
I tried to replicate in a parking lot but it won't do it unless i drive it forward about 2 to 3 miles before trying to back up.

Start with torquing everything to spec.

also, a video i found online had a popping outer tie rod end ocassionally. I checked mine with out much luck.

The best advice is to get a long craw bar or breaker bar (ice chipper/pipe etc). then put he truck on stands and systematically go to each joint and lift and feel for play.

(otherwise, if you have the TRD engine pan it will clunk without trimming).

Good luck i'm watching this tread to see what comes of it.

Same thing in my 2019 trd pro and my neighbor has the same in his (same truck). Dealer told him it was the something to-do with the way the brake calipers release (If I recall correctly).

Notorious for noises between the rear mounts and frame. Place some rubber washers, isulators there.

    Update:
I replaced the lowers and tie rod ends. The noise is still there, I am not sure if it is the CV axle??

Remove the skid plate and try it before you spend any more money.

I have the RCI skid plate. The noise is recent and I am only hearing it from the driver side when turning in reverse or forward slowly. However, the sound does not appear to be there when driving at high speeds. There is no play in the steering wheel, nor the axle.
I also removed the sway bar, lubed it and reattached it.
I looked online and several other Tundra owners have it as well. It is quite common it seems after lifting the truck. I do not have a bracket lift.

    To clarify.
You got the same result with sway bar in or out? Driving same conditions and noise?

You removed skid plate to rule it out? Just because it shouldn.t matter doesn.t mean there isn.t an isssue with yours.

At work we're taught to not rule out issues. And not to rule out or focus on what we think is the issue as it might be something else.

My rear parking brakes (napa rotors) where hitting the brake dust shield on my truck. My truck made noise in reverse or hesitated at first moving. I would have assumed tie rod inner or outer as it felt like it was loading up and releasing in the front end. But my issue was in the rear but felt like a front end issue.

My long winded point is, did you change anything else when you installed lift? Could something be removed or tested to be ruled out.

I.m thinking tire rotation, pressures, brakes, etc?

Also what are the lift details, brands etc, do any of the mt or lt guys have your set-up.

I understand how upsetting a noise issue is. Keep at it somethings making that noise.

I agree. It is a meticulous process of trial and elimination to be able to isolate the problem. I have driven the truck with reducing contact stress points such as removing the sway bar, skid plates.
The sound is almost identical to metal on metal clunking/popping sound. I have a Fox 2.5 Coilover, Camburg uppers, Bilstein 5160, OEM, CB Shackles. That gives me a lift of 3.5 inches.

I’m on my second 3rd gen had a 14 and didn’t realize anything until after I lifted it but traded in and got a 19 and straight off the lot it had that clunk asked the dealership and they said something about the breaks releasing mine only does it when first started and put in drive right before it shifts into second I could put it in park and drive all day without killing the engine and no noise but if I kill the engine it does it every time but apparently the dealership says they all do it don’t know if that’s your issue

Ok so it's a Toyota thing. My 2002 Sequoia with 240,000 miles does it. 2008 Tundra did5E19516B-8130-421F-A225-70E07E1C7D31_1_105_c.jpg it 180,000 miles, 2008 Sequoia did it since new and my 2017 Tundra does it. I think the noise comes from the front differential auto lock 4x4

Have no idea if this is the issue, but it’s easy to check. There are 2 washers in the upper shock mount, mine got too much thread locker on them during assembly and it tore them apart. BF1CE930-1CAE-4F0F-B3E8-1F7C7924136A.jpg

That is something to investigate as well, I am trying to go through a list of possible culprits. Thank You for the info brother.

Not mentioned here but wonder if that would be the diff mounts hitting the crossmember or the skid plate. Depending on the timing of the noise (acceleration vs. braking) it could be something to consider.

Some reference pics based on what I had in mind.

    Top bolt from the diff.

I’m not sure what lift is on the truck I bought it used and for the price I figured I could figure out the clunk issue it does have aftermarket UCA’s not sure on which ones they are I’m thinking it’s gotta be either ball joints or control arm bushings

Mine makes the same sound as the above video!
Started after I installed my OME +2.5" kit.
Although mine occurs when turning at slow speed.
No noise going from reverse to forward.
    It's driving me insane.
