My Son purchased this DBL Cab a little over a year ago and recently
took a pretty good crunch to the hood, drivers fender, and core support.
So we spent some time disassembling and searching the junk yards.
Found the replacements in the same color and proceeded to hack shit up with the sawzall.
Took us awhile to get it all lined up and measured out.
A little seam sealer and some rivets and everything fit pretty well. On to the bumper...

So now instead of trying to fit plastic back in there we opted for the Coastal kit. Have to say for two knuckleheads who are not fabricators or welders, this kit seems to be perfect for beginners.
Time will tell how well it looks, but for now it seems to be coming together pretty well.

Wow, our trucks are practically going to be twins. I have an '04, but same bumper installed after a front end collision... same cab, same color, same front suspension, trd wheels... your repair work looks better than what my body shop did though. Can't wait to see it once finished.

Looking good! I like those color rims. My Son wants to change out his TRD rims, they're faded aftermarkets I had laying around but the width and offset works well with his 285s, so they'll be hanging around for awhile.

We also had to go about 4 hrs one way to find this color body parts at a salvage yard. They matched up ok.

Any surprises or issues with the bumper? I'm still waiting to hear back from Coastal on a group buy. Your work looks great!

Did you add additional welding/plating behind the 4 bolts back into the frame?
I’d highly suggest this for @MI-FL off roader, that flat plate welded to the frame that the entire bumper is holding onto, doesn’t seem like the strongest single point attachment.

Thank You. Fitting the core support to line up was no joke, lot of mock up trial and error. As far as the Coastal kit, no issues and we feel its really well made. So far we've been impressed with how it's going together. I've learned enough about welding in the last year to allow us to piece it together and tack it in place. Luckily my neighbor is the one with the mig skills. So we prep and tack, and he runs the glue when we have a section ready. Really wish I'd learned to weld when I was younger. As of now, I need LOTS of practice.

Yea I looked at that portion. I was actually surprised how stout those two frame plates are, when we had to pry off the oem bumper. But I agree, if this truck was going to be an offroad rig with lots of recovery action, I would highly recommend reinforcing. I'm curious how a true fabricator would strengthen this up. Reinforce the existing plates or cut them off and fab up some thicker ones.

My Son isn't really into off roading (Tundra is 2wd), so there won't be a winch installed saving quite a bit of weight. This is basically a way to save the nightmare of trying to aquire/assemble all the oem bumper parts, and the Coastal looks good too.

He wanted a Shrockworks like I have on my 5th gen 4Runner, but luckily they didn't list one for 1st gen Tundras, or he might have gotten ripped off like several others did when Jim Shrock abruptly shut his doors, screwing over both his customers and employees. Hopefully some restitution is being worked out for those that were affected.

@FrenchToasty I was looking over the instructions and remembered they do have side brackets that bolt to the frame at the body mount cradle. So that makes me feel a little better about my Son's application, but anyone doing heavy recovery would do well to reinforce all of it. The end cap fastening points aren't the thickest gauge steel.

What notch are those Eibach shocks/springs set at and did you have to change them before install or any point thereafter? Mine do not lift near as much as what you've got there.

It's in the middle of the settings (there are 2 more notches above the perch), but the truck is on a bit of a slope, so it might drop a little on level ground.

I bought mine pre-assembled from toytech lifts with 2.5" Eibach lift shocks. The perches are set on the bottom notch and that's supposed to give a 2.5 inch lift. I think I need to go up to the middle though. Maybe that lift is attained on a 2wd access cab.

I'm running 32" skinny tires (255/75/17) and there's not much gap between tire and fender.

@Mustanley we took the Eibachs off after the initial install and raised them to the height they're at currently. This was to level it out with the rear and before my Son had his accident and we hadn't even considered a steel bumper. So yea you might want to go up a notch maybe?

Y'all did some damn good work - even better when it's father & son spending time together. My 4 year old already likes to play in the garage with me - stuffs screwdrivers in weird places in my front suspension so I have to go back under and pull everything out before I take a drive...

    Thanks!
The Coastal kit gets all the credit for how well the bumper turned out. The core support and fenders lining up with the doors and hood as well as they did was quite a bit of good luck.

We had a couple of Father/Son stubborn arguments during the process, but we have a pretty tight relationship.
Ryan was the same way when he was little, "I fixed it Daddy".

    UPDATE Finally:
Ryan finally found the money to have Maaco color match the roof, hood/grill, and fenders.
Far from perfect, but looks pretty good. We'll see how it holds up.
