Good code readers for 2000 Tundra? Not looking to break the bank, and ideally I could find it locally. (The second might be a weird ask for a forum question) thanks.

Started throwing a check engine after a 400 mile trip. Didn’t throw the code on the trip. Runs good, transmission feels good, starts right up. Check engine came on during a short commute the next day.

If you only want to read codes, any $30 OBDII reader from scAmazon will work for that. Or just pull into an auto zone and have the kid read you the code from his $30 scanner for free.

“If I only want to read codes” would something more complicated be able to make a more accurate diagnoses? I’ve heard of Carly, and while they’re expensive is something like that an example of what would read more than just codes?

Most inexpensive ones will read ECM only. Others will read TCM, ABS and Airbag. It just depends on your needs.

Perfect. Thank you. Would a NAPA do this for free also or no?

Call and ask. I know most chain auto parts stores will.

I agree with this. It can also be used on multiple vehicles, real time data, basically all systems. Plus detailed explanations of DTCs.

If you're not looking for anything fancy then there's cheap options on Amazon. I would guess Walmart would have some options as well.
