Just installed a rough country cold air intake filter in my 2017 toyota tundra. Now the truck will turn on for a second then off. Is it a computer thing?

Did you unplug the battery? If so it’ll do this on the first initial startup then be fine after. Also, the factory intake is a cold air box just an fyi

I'll check again. But it looked like there was only one way the screw fit

Alright so I screwed in sensor the only way I could but was facing wrong way.

So then I turned it the right and fastened it without screws. My truck stays on. Fixed that problem

Now I have a check engine light??

That’s because of a vacuum leak. Tighten everything up. Reset the battery everything should clear up

The 2007-2021 tundras have factory cold air intakes that are actually quite efficient for NA configurations. The cold air is brought in from the fender through a 3” hole. The design like this rough country would bring in alot/most of air from the engine compartment. I’d recommend putting the stock housing back on. Remove the charcoal filter then putting in a Air box mod (like GTEK or DIY) and doing the throttle body coolant bypass if you are looking for a few extra ponies and more sound. For superchargers the likely best off the shelf option is the TRD Magnuson intake box which is bigger than stock.

My truck came with a factory installed cold air intake when new, havent actually seen a Tundra that didn't come with one. What was the need for the aftermarket one? Rice?

Alright. Everything works with new cold air intake. No engine light. Traction back on. Just need to bicth at rough country and have them figure how to fasten sensor better

Now to install the dual exhaust system

My man, you can spend your money as you like, but you may be just tossing dollars at sound here. Both with the intake and the exhaust.

Those are two of the things that Toyota did a great job on!

99% sure OP is talking about a catback. All the mods like the Rough Country CAI and a generic catback will at best keep similar performance or more likely reduce performance. No doubt a legitimate set of ARH or SW headers will improve performance but are also 2k with a 1k install.

And for $3K, I’d be looking at gears waaaaaayyyy before headers.

We’ve Al been down the road of making choices that may not fit the masses. All we can do is educate and hope it helps folks. For some, a little grunt sound is worth a little loss in other areas.

I'm a carpenter screwing around.... but Im allowing more air in and pushing more air out. I increased a little.

Of course there's better out there. Just like there's a better truck out there in general

Before you have to get a flame suit, let’s go over your goals for your truck.
What are you wanting for tire size?
How do you intend to use it? All road? Mix of on-road and off-road? Slow? Fast?
Do you like a tall truck, or are you looking to pack as much tire in there that will fit without rubbing?
Do you like your tires poking out a ways, or is it ok to keep them more within the fenders if it means more performance?
    Is this your daily driver?
    What’s your budget?

There is a metric shit-ton of solid info on this site, and even more good folks that are willing to answer questions. The answers are only as useful as the info you provide though! There’s no wrong way to build a truck, but plenty of ways to do it twice if you don’t know before the first time…

    I have 17" rims and lt305/70r17

For a 6" lift. The biggest tire I think i can fit is a 37" but they say it's a squeeze. So probably a 36" tire

I dont like the tire spacer look

Plan on getting new heavy duty leaf springs

    New front bumper

I had the Rough Country HOT Air Intake, and it really did make the V8 sound like a mean muscle car. But got the Stillen CAI now and couldn't be happier. :burnrubber:
