Hi guy's, first time posting but I've been reading alot on this forum. I have a 2016 Tundra SR5, would a cold air intake be any real benefit? If so can you recommend a specific unit?

    Thanks,
    L

    Welcome to the party!!

Well, if your stock truck didnt already have a CAI, id say maybe. Long story short no after market intake will give you any gains on these trucks. You can upgrade to an AFE dry drop in filter replacement, though.

Welcome from Aurora. You have a CAI. Drop in a K&N and you are good to go.

860E98DE-FE26-48BA-A698-BA789DF04DC7.jpg Welcome from BC, truck already came with a “cold air intake” system but, you can improve it by doing the SABM!82DEE8D1-58FB-4506-AF53-C70917629505.jpgthis option is cheaper then the aftermarket system, I felt a performance improved and truck sound good without being too loud.

Just my 2 cents, I’ve got a 2016 5.7 and dropped a k&n a few weeks ago. Performance is definitely better as far as low end torque and responsiveness but I did see a drop in mpg. I usually drive pretty smooth so not sure what happened there.

Plus after the filter swap I started to notice a whistling around 2k rpm so I’m going to need to swap out my throttle body gasket.

I'm wondering why you would lose MPG and why you get a Whistling noise from just a K&N drop in filter?

From what I’ve researched. The k&n is allowing more air flow (cfm) to the throttle body. there is a gasket that is on the throttle body that has a screen mesh that is restricting the airflow ( don’t know how much cause it’s only a metal screen) but the increase flow is causing the whistle. Any one want to help me out?

That makes sense. I didn't realize the K&N allowed that much more CFM. Good to know.

Yea. Not sure if I’m going to go back to disposable filter or replace the gasket and see if that make any mpg difference. Might have to see exactly how much I lost.
