Anyone know if someone makes a removable console for the transmission tunnel in column shift trucks? I have a picture of the area in question. I am thinking of drawing something in solid works that I could have 3d printed. I am thinking it could hug the tunnel and just sit there so it is easily removable for when you need the center seat. Thoughts?IMG_20190217_113739.jpg

I have the same issue... I bought a cheap box from Staples I think that is like cardboard covered with fabric. it was cheap... but works temporarily. I want something similar to what you are saying though. One thing.. I took off the headrest from the center seat and put it in the seat storage compartment. It give you a lot more room actually

I new I wasn't alone. I am happy with the column shifter because I do need the six seats now and again. I just want more storage for hats, gloves, my wallet, and thing like that.

I have drawn up a 3d model of a console that would have two fingers to go down along the tunnel to keep it in place. I am working on pricing to get it 3d printed and will update the thread once I get it back.

    Still rocking the stock height.
I hate that open area on my truck. I had a box that i used to keep stuff in the back end of my escape just laying around at the house. I put it there and it fits great. I will have to get some pictures of it later. I like what you came up with.
I have also been thinking about removing the middle seat and finding a center console to put in.

I was planning on having a stereo shop build something and carpet it. I want to mount my ham radio and external speaker for it along with 12v and USB charging ports that plug into the OEM ports it will cover. Also a mount for my tablet for maps when offroading so I don't have to have it mounted to the windshield and blocking a little bit of my view. Could also incorporate a gun holster either hidden with a magnetic door or easily accessible.

I have a column shifter. In my '06 Taco, I had the floor shifter, and being able to say I've had both I would prefer a column in a truck. There is just something about pulling down on a column shifter in a truck, floor shifter is fine for a car. IMHO

I use the white trash option

Actually it’s great, sits right on the transmission hump in front of the seat (headrest removed). And I can remove/throw it in back if I need to use the middle seat.

Use another one exactly the same for the transom shelf on my boat for weights, knives, pliers, etc. These things are so handy.

So a little update to this thread.

I have been super busy with going to school full time and work full time so I apologize it has been a while.

I reached out to several company's to gauge cost on producing something like this. 3d printing a model I design is not going to be cost effective. Every printing service I have reached out to has given me an outrageous cost to print this console. I have even spoke to a few companies about providing them with the research and development and them producing the part but again cost!

So I have shifted focus and am looking into a soft sided option.

I have reached out to a company called Blue Ridge Overland that I found through watching Mountain State Overland's series on YouTube. I sent them an email tonight and am hoping to get some correspondence from them tomorrow. They do a ton of customized storage solutions for all sorts of vehicles. I highly recommend checking them out either on their website or Facebook.

So when I hear back from them, I will post up what they say on this thread. I did mention that I had some interest in the idea from some of you guys on here and am going to try and get a group deal from them if they are willing to do it.

What do you guys think about a canvas console idea?

I bought this mini console cup holder for $9 and put 2 screws in the trim piece to hold it in place. At first, I put the screws on the center seat side but found that the mini console prevented me from opening the seat fully so put 2 screws in the trim panel under the radio. 20190327_172321.jpg 20190327_172257.jpg

For me personally I don't care about having the extra cup holders. I am looking more for a place to keep a flash light, work gloves, small pad of paper, winter hat, and things like that. If I set them on the tunnel they fall off and if I put them under the seat it's a PITA to get to them. That's why I am looking for something the keep them in place on top of the tunnel while I drive.

Roger that. Well maybe consider reaching out to the guys that make mine as a possible source for your design. Looks to me like they're a smallish US based company that might jump at the idea; they make all kinds of consoles for hot rods, which to me implies custom work...

Also been looking for something like this. There was something at Autozone that kind of would have worked but wasn't ideal. I was thinking of making something, but would definitely buy a custom made box for the floor hump.

i want one to install my Clarion dash EQ i am planning to install...yes, i am old school and love an easily tweakable EQ...not gonna mount it under the dash, lol. altho, i am thinking about removing the usb and 12v outlets from center panel and cutting it to hold the EQ. but a nice looking floor console could definately work
