I am wanting to completely upgrade my 2004 Tundra. It has 84000mi and I’ve never had a minutes problem with it whatsoever. It white and I’m having it repainted . I’d like to upgrade headlights, taillights, etc, change to updated black grill, put heavy duty bumpers on it front and back, replace fenders with newer bolt accent, Linex the bed, and change out wheels to a black model. Asking for any advice on where to shop. And what’s not possible with it being 17 years old. Having difficulty finding newer headlight conversion kits with LED or projection lamps. Another question.,it has 17” rims. Can I go to 18 and lift it or is there a maximum tire size with 17” that I can use if I do lift it? Not wanting to hack it up to the sky, just a slight lift. Thank you kindly for any suggestions and thank all of y’all that’s served our country to keep it safe.

If it's white and chalky, you don't need to repaint, it's single stage paint and only requires a good cut & polish job. Look at the link in my signature for an example. Toyota used single-stage paint for all non-metallic trucks.

Assuming yours isn't as tore up as your profile suggests, the paint will last forever, just keep it polished and waxed. Even if it's tore up, polishing will blend out a hell of a lot of damage. You can do it yourself with basic tools, or find a shop that will do it for you, ballpark is typically $500-1,200 depending on your area. Cheaper than a crappy Maaco paint job! A good quality repaint will cost you $2,500-4,000.

As for the other stuff, best you can do is to hit the 1st Gen Photo Thread to find stuff you like. A lot of members have links at the bottom of their posts which point to their build thread, and you can look up where they bought their stuff. For bumper and guards, search the forum for any thread with "Armor" in the subject. There's a sticky thread section at the top of our 1st Gen forum you can scroll through with these common topics which repeat over-and-over.

There's about a hundred tire threads, suspension threads on here. Mostly because people don't like to dig on their own, so they create new posts, which just makes it harder for the next guy. I'd encourage using the search on that one, just to avoid another thread containing the same info re-shared over and over.

For LED, some folks have done it. Hyperflash and loss of fog light function, short bulb life are just a few of the issues you can run into going to LED. I don't want to mess with all that, so I just bought replacement OEM headlights (I came out around $350 for everything, IIRC) and I'm running with that. Just replacing with new Toyota light assemblies made a huge difference. I'd prefer projectors for a more modern look, but not willing to fight with other problems.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Oh, and here's a grille thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/first-gen-grille-options.95219/#post-2471055

Finally, unless you like risk of counterfeit auto parts, avoid Amazoan and Fleabay for purchases. People have been getting hammered with counterfeits from those two sources year a few years now.

Thank you. Will do. I’ll start searching. As far as paint, yes I’ve bungled up the exterior pretty well including a big hash from a trailer jackknifed which also bent the rear bumper snd messed up the tailgate.‍

I'd been working on tossing together some random info that covers most stuff. Ever since we lost Pinay as a mod, our 'Info dump' sticky thread is decaying. I'd really love to take over that thread just for the sake of grouping things together. Anyway, here's some stuff I can dump here.

Wheel size won't really affect your ground clearance (lift), however the tires you put on will affect that. This thread was of great help to me when was choosing tire size: https://www.tundras.com/threads/largest-tire-you-can-run-stock-for-all-generations.9762/

Depending on the backspace, you might have issues with 18" wheels not clearing the spindle.

My personal opinion is anything larger than 17" wheels on these trucks look horrible. If you're planning on taking your truck offroad, I'd go with 16" wheels though for the increased sidewall and contact patch when aired down.

As for your headlights... proceed with caution buying aftermarket assemblies. The 05-06 DC assemblies are not compatible with 04 DCs due to size difference.

second the motion of smaller wheels. 17 tops. i've got 17s due to the expected 14wa upgrade. 18s and up just look... goofy or ghetto.. not to mention less sidewall = rougher ride
