I'm considering a 2019 Tundra CrewMax SR5 4x4 with about 19,000 miles. Roughly $47k. Thoughts on price for the miles? I know with the chip shortage all prices are up so is that a fair value in the current climate? This is in Los Angeles, CA.

Any problems/issues I should look for or ask about?

I bought my '19 4x4 SR5 for 43k brand new with 0% interest. I haven't had any problems with mine, besides the fuel pump being replaced under recall. That price seems a little steep to me, especially considering you'll be paying interest. Go onto the NADA website and plug everything in, it should tell you what it should go for in your area. Dealerships use NADA to price vehicles, so they will definitely know what it is if you bring it up.

Prices are definitely all over the place right now. My Tundra has 25k on it right now, was worth 39k last week and is worth 41k as of today.

Good luck, hope you get the truck you want!

    Cheers

Oddly enough NADA prices it higher by about 5k. This chip shortage climate is not favoring buyers at all.

Part of it is definitely your area. You might even look at some dealerships out of state to get a better price. I've seen some guys on here do that when their state of residence has inflated prices. Even before the shortage, it was like that.

I'm curious what all these folks buying brand new Tundras are paying. It may end up being tue better value for you since my 2019 limited was stickered at 52 and i got it for 45.

That said, tough market, and if it is certified and what you want, likely worth it. Something to be said about having something built befire these crazy times we're in.

Welcome and hope you can negotiate a lower price on the low miles Tundra you want... Good luck and post pics soon.

In 2019 I was going to buy a used TRD Pro, but getting 0% on a new truck ended up being cheaper and less money overall instead of paying interest, so you may be right. The market just sucks for any vehicle right now.

That mileage doesn't bother me at all. I have 15k on my ‘21 already. :anonymous:

That price could stand to come down for sure, but I imagine in LA you’re not likely to find much if a better deal. If it has all the specs you want, and if you can’t find a new ‘21 (it’s the absolute end of the line for ‘21s now), why not go for it? Especially if you can talk them down a few thousand dollars…

2 dealers near me each have 1 2021 Tundra, similar specs, different colors. The dark gray they have listed at ~$54k and openly told me there'd be a $3,000 mark up on top of that. No thank you. The other one is the cement color and ~$53k. They claimed no markup, but I'm not a fan of that color. Ordering a '22 is out of the question, it'd be 6 months to a year before I got it. (their words)

SO... looking to the slightly used market now. I'm hoping this 2019 is the one.

The big thing I'd tell you to consider it this: how long do you plan to have the truck, and have you researched what you'll use it for?

    1. If you are only going to keep the truck for 3-5 years, you might pay high now and suffer a depreciation if the market stabilizes in that time frame. Bitter pill to swallow for sure. If you are keeping it 'til the wheels fall off, then the increased price right now is less of an issue.
    2. Any 2019+ Tundra does not have an external transmission cooler. Use the search bar and draw your own conclusions on if it matters, but it is something to know.
    3. Tundras, regardless of year, have a very low payload rating. If you are planning to tow a travel trailer over about 22-24 feet, any size of toy hauler, or a 5th wheel, you will be over your payload rating. Again, lots of arguments on how much that matters, but something you should consider.

If you are going to keep it forever, either don't need the cooler or are willing to install it yourself, and don't plan to tow big stuff, then you should be ok at that price point. If you care about the cooler, are going to trade/sell in less than a decade, or have hopes and dreams of towing big trailers.... you need to get a different truck altogether.

Right now I'm looking at at least 6 years. No plans to tow anything that size, and in the bed will be mountain bikes, snowboards, camping gear, home appliances, that sort of stuff. No engines or bags of concrete for pouring a full size home foundation.
I'll check out the external transmission cooler thing.

We bought a 2019 CM Platinum with 24K miles earlier this year for $50K. Probably a little steep on the price but it was Toyota certified used with extended warranty, paint protection and life time oil change. More than happy ! We are in Nor Cal so the price compared to LA area, I would assume, is a little lower.

I think you found a repo the dealer bought at auction. Just make sure you don't see any signs of flood damage. If not, you have found a fairly good deal as long as the dealer doesn't try to add $500 docs fees and other extended warranties, etc. Often they try to get you with shit like gap insurance and similar.

That's cheaper than what they are going for around here on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

It crazy times for sure. I was at my dealer the other getting my alarm programmed and looked at their used inventory, no new ones. The lowest one I saw was a 18 SR5 for $41k. I paid $38k for a 20 SR5 SX package. If you really need a truck then you are at the dealers mercy. I don’t see this going away anytime soon and might even continue up. If it does come down I see a lot of people getting hosed on their purchases. Make sure to get GAP if you do buy invade the market drops and your upside down on the truck.

I looked at it today and didn't notice any damage on the carpet flooring. The all weather mats were stuffed under the rear seat so I didn't get a good look at those. I'll likely be going back tomorrow and will make it a point to look at them.

The overall interior was good, no stains or signs of wear. It drove well and the all-important AC got me cool in 5-10 minutes, about what I expected/hoped for. It has some towing options that I'm not familiar with but like I said, I don't plan on doing any towing and if I ever do, I'm sure I can just look up what that stuff does. lol

I just bought an immaculate 2018 Crewmax Limited with 20k miles for $47. Had some nice upgrades, brand new tint, brand new magnaflow muffler, hard tonneau cover, sub roof and not scratch on it. I may have overpaid by a few $k but I'm happy. In Utah a new one was 5 months wait and 5k over MSRP.

I think you can get a better value on a new one (2021).

The other consideration is the ‘22s get announced next week (19th) and that will put downward pressure on both the new and used 3rd gen. The wild card here is how the semi-conductor supply impacts Toyotas ability to deliver new product.

Well if it has towing gear someone may have worked it really hard. I have seen some trucks get abused by people moving across country or similar then dumping the overworked transmission and truck before it fails on them. Might look at the safety chain loops for paint chips and wear to get an idea how much the previous owner towed.

Seems comparable to the used ones in my area, which is why I bought new. Paid just north of 50k.
