I've owned Toyotas for nearly 30 years and now I'm in the market for a new truck. I'm hesitating staying with Toyota after seeing some of the GEN three issues. I know about the transmission issue on the 2024 models. I heard one guy online say that the 2024 had only one reported engine failure to date, is this true? Just wondering if the 2024 are improvement over the 2022 and 2023 models? Considering waiting till 2025 until they work the bugs out, thoughts? I'm also also interested if folks buying the 2024 would recommende extended warranties to offset concerns about the earlier model years? Any guidance you can give would be much appreciated.

No guarantees in life but I would not (and did not) hesitate to buy a ‘24 built in the last ~2-3 months. Odds are quite good that they have figured out their issue.

The Platinum extended warranty makes a lot of financial sense, however I would wait until you have 30k miles on it before purchasing (just need to do so before 36k)

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. Other than the removal of the 5.7 motor, the other thing I don't like about the new ones is the V8 sound pumped in artificially. That is kind of cheesy. Plus, I like to listen to the motor and the real noises it may or may not make. It sounds like some people have successfully disconnected it, but I would be hesitant, since it might void the warranty, Especially on the electrical stuff, which we all know can break or malfunction at any time.

Do you know how much the platinum warranty runs? How long and is a bumper-to-bumper?

It’s not like that. No physical disconnections, no voiding of warranty and your service department will do it for you while in techstream doing software updates not available over the air. The other option is a Carista type unit, but you have to pay a monthly, if you keep it past the trial period. Search around the forum. There’s lots of info to glean…just learn to sift through the BS.
If those are the only 2 dislikes, you’re golden. Buy it, enjoy it and have fun driving it (it is fun to drive).

**“The dealership tech can hook up their scan tool to the OBD II port. Then, going into the settings, they will find the following: Active noise control > utility > customize > others > ANC/ESE. Turning off both ANC/ESE will remove the fake exhaust noise.”**

ESE is the v8 noise, but you can leave ANC on (active noise canceling). The above was cut and paste from elsewhere to get you to the right place. At first everybody was turning both off and someone played with it (Carista) and figured out ANC is good for road noise, etc.

You can turn the fake engine noises off very easily with Carista. No chance that doing so would void any warranty.

there are some folks on the forum that sell the warranties for a couple hundred over their cost. It’s quite reasonably priced in my opinion.

Can it be turned off with a Snapon scanner?

I just bought a 2024 Tundra TRD Pro. It has the hybrid v6 Max Force engine. I haven’t researched it, but I do think some sound is being fed into the cab. It sounds good and the power is impressive. I only have about 1000 miles so far, but it was a huge step up from my 14 Taco!

Any tundra with the JBL has the fake engine noise. I turned mine off. Sounds so much better without it.

I jumped on the deals for 2024's along with the 1.99% rate. The info for 2025's has been released, I think you'll be getting the same truck.

I just picked up my 2024 TRD Pro yesterday. How did you shut off the faux V8 sound?

Carista app or your dealer can do it (if they are nice).

Pay for one month of Carista, ($9.99) then cancel. Buy an OBDII Bluetooth dongle on AMZ ($15-20)(Dont pay a lot for one) During that month you can fiddle with all kinds of settings. The settings do not revert after Carista subscription. Turn off the piped in engine noise (it’s not fake), turn off seat belt chimes by seat (your choice), I changed the folding mirror trigger (don’t like it by door locks). Add more flashes to the lane change signal. Also custom window and AC settings in there. Afterwards you can use your OBD dongle with free phone apps like Car Scanner to read live data (trans, engine, gear pos, temps & pressures in analog format, etc)
