It’s easier to sale and buy a 4x4

    Yes it's possible.

There are 4wd specific settings in the computer such as shift timing and throttle positioning, which I think would be important especially when you drop down into 4Low where your gearing is completely different. The computer is also used to adjust the shift forks in the transfer case and front diff, to go in and out of 4wd, although you could probably jerry rig a switch to activate the shift forks manually.

Anything is possible if you put enough money into it, but I would bet you can sell your 4x2 and buy a 4x4 for less overall cost than this would entail.

The truck has a separate 4x4 ecu that controls the transfer case. I am not sure if 4x2 and 4x4 use the same ECM, but I wouldn’t be completely surprised if they do. Maybe not? Part number comparison would be best way to check.

The computer adding/swapping is not that hard. Adding wiring for the system if yours is not prewired for 4x4 would be very difficult. You would have to wire in transfer case, 4x4 switch, 4x4 ecu ect.

Mot to mention replacing the entire front end underneath.
