Okay, time to get new tires.

Trying to decide between the Cooper and the Falken.

Getting stock size 275/65/18 and staying with P metric (both tires in 116 load index).

My wife drives the Tundra as a DD, mostly suburban commuting. We tow a 4800lb travel trailer several times a year (not very heavy and less than 2000 miles total per year).

Looking for a comfortable ride but also want a tire that looks more aggressive than a highway tire. Think I’ve narrowed my search to these two tires.

    What would you choose?

I have the Cooper 4S. Outstanding tire. But they're both great. Basically whichever tread pattern you like better.

I’m a Falken fan big time.

I too am stock size and load range.

    Quiet, and wear well.

I am such a fan of this tire, I swapped out the near new factory ones for them.

You by chance have a profile shot of the truck with them on? Wondering how they look overall in the OG size. Thanks in advance.

Iv'e had both on my personal trucks and currently the Cooper on my Tundra and the Falkens on a F250 work truck. The Falkens are more aggressive and have more aggressive side walls. The Cooper seem to have better road manners. Don't think you could go wrong with either. Snagged my Coopers for $135 a tire for 275/60/20s during one of the online tire retailers flash sales which is why I have them now. I probably would have went with which ever one is cheaper.

I've had both...and maybe it was just me, but I had a terrible set of AT3's, and on top of that, dealer for them wouldn't do squat. I upgraded to the Falkens and they were freakin' fantastic - enough so that I'll put them on the Tundra when the time to comes to get new shoes.

I love the tread pattern on the falkens and cost isnt bad compared to the Toyo's I have. Was just weird, even had other people mention it , just the set on his 4runner

I’ve heard about people having issues balancing some other tires. Any issues balancing or keeping either of these tires balanced?

I have the 4S on my 4Runner and Falkens on the Tundra. Both are great and handle themselves awesome in the snow. Quiet on road manners.
The only mark against the Falkens is they are heavy suckers.

I've used both brands with great results. I had the Wildpeaks on my last truck, an F250. They were quite good for such an aggressive tread pattern.

Biebs, Your truck is gorgeous. I love that color:)

I’m going with Wildpeaks next time around. 275/60/20. Were out of stock last time and she needed tires. Hope to have better luck this time. Not a common tire at shops around here.

Do you do all that much winter / ice / snow driving?

You might also look at the Cooper AT3 XLT’s. Bit more aggressive look that the 4S, check out the search function and there is a massive thread on how great the XLT’s are. The XLT’s are snowflake rated in a number of sizes, and lighter than the Wildpeaks.

I run the XLT’s year round here in Alaska, they do great in winter conditions. I am amazed at how light / quiet / smooth the tires are for such an aggressive AT tire. Amazing tread warranty as well. One of my employees has the 4S on his F150 and he hates parking next to me, tells me all the time how much he wishes he would have gotten the XLT’s.

very happy with my falkens and couldn't beat the price. running them in a 285/75/18 on my tundra... I had a set of 35/12.5/15 on my crawler in their mt's and loved them as well.

I have the cooper at3 4s tires on my truck. They are excellent in snow and rain. Pleased so far. Only have like 2,000 miles on them. Can’t go wrong with them imo. Quiet as well. They are lighter than the falkens. Which is why I went with the 4s. Falkens were my second choice as well. I don’t off-road much. Both are great tires imo. Price are pretty much the same around here.

    none yet -just starting out
I have had both and found the Falkens to be superior. Rode better, balanced easy, quiet, and (at the time at least) much less $$$. Now that was when they were first being introduced to the market so the $ part may have changed as they have become recognized for how good they are.

Could have just been me or a bad batch but I got the AT3 4S in a P rated on my truck, within 4 or 5 months, only about 6k miles if I remember right, I had 2 punctures and a catastrophic failure. One of the punctures I would attribute any tire would lose, 6" piece of rebar came through and ripped a hole, had to be replaced. The other puncture was a screw, had to be patched. The icing on the cake that made me go back to Discount Tire and demand they take them off my truck, and I need new tires, was I had a "bubble" happen in the middle of the tread and start leaking. Started leaking worse and worse and of course I was 50ish miles away from Discount at this point since I had just left Helena and was on my way back to Great Falls. Had to stop 6 times in 50 miles to put air in it. Limped it in and they took it off and told me the belt pack was ripped down the middle. I'm running Goodyear UltraTerrain A/T's in an LT now and have not had a single issue yet. I got the tire warranties so that saved me a TON of money on the replacements and they gave me a nice sized credit toward the new set since I had literally just bought the Cooper's from them.

Don't get me wrong I have the Cooper's on my wife's Durango R/T AWD, and they have been EXCELLENT there, but I don't think the P rated tire, at least the Cooper, is stout enough for our trucks IMO. Had too many issue it too short a time. I love Cooper and would have tried the AT3 XLT in an LT, but......Discount Tire does not stock that tire in house, and living 80ish miles and an hour away....that wasn't going to work for me, so I got something they stock in the locations at all times.

Walmart seems to have a decent price on the Wildpeak right now. Any real difference between the 65 and 70’s on a stock height truck?

I have the Wildpeak 275/60/20 and love them. I had the same tires on my old truck and bought them again for my new truck. Walmart had the lowest price, and they were delivered the next day.

Method wheels should be in Friday for my wife's 4runner, will be putting Toyo AT3's on them probably the next weekend depending on when the tire shop can get them. I have to run by there this Saturday and order them because they offer a "special" cash discount :spy:.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I’ve decided on the Falken’s. Getting them installed for $776 + tax. Toyota dealers have a buy 3 get 4th for $1 (on any tire) in case anyone else is interested.
