I originally posted here about a year ago asking if I was crazy to consider trading in my 2016 DC for a Crewmax for kid space. I decided to not do it, but now that #2 is a very likely possibility, and I'm finding that getting my son in an out of the center of the rear seat is super fun with diaper bags, food, clothes, etc (especially each day when dropping him off and picking him up at my parents or the in-laws). I do wonder what it will be like with the second one.

Anyways, dealers her are asking ~$42k for Crewmax TRDs with the standard SR5 Upgrade, Safety Sense, S&C, TRD package.

A local dealer just got a trade in 2017 Crewmax TRD in MGM (same as mine) with ~13,000 miles, with a spray in liner (a plus since I would have to have the done again if trading in since my truck has a spray in liner). They do want $39,800 for it as a CPO which seems a little steep.

I like that on a 17, I could swap literally everything over (Grille, Bulge, end caps), and have the same look (not a huge fan of the chrome on the 18's and the fact that you can't swap the bumper ends).

With the price so close to a new one, it's hard to swallow, but do the advantages I mentioned outweigh the "newness" of an 18?

For the record, the new gauge cluster and safety sense are not major things to make me want to upgrade to an 18.

Paying cash? If not, you will probably get a better rate on the new one. Since you are trading in a newer truck with high value, the sales tax will all but cancel out which is nice.

Getting that CPO for closer to 35K would be nice. If it was going to be a $5k difference or more between those two vehicles you described then I would go with the CPO.
-You're saving $5k and walking into a near new truck.
-You can swap over all of your goodies.
    -It already has Line-X.

Their asking price of 39k is steep unless it comes with some other add-ons not mentioned.

Only add on is the spray in liner according to the spec/price sheet they sent.

With the price difference of 2200, I would buy the new one. You would get that back easily when you trade it in later anyways. If you can talk them down more on the cpo, to a 4 or 5k difference, then the 2017 would be good. Does the 18 have the new led headlights?

Best reason to consider the CPO is the extra warranty. How good is Toyota's warranty for CPO? What do you get on top of the factory warranty?

All the CPO trucks I've bought were better warrantied by an extra two years I think. I'm done buying new :)

You can buy that extra warranty on a new truck before the factory warranty expires.

These trucks hold their values too well. To me it's a better deal to buy new, assuming you can negotiate a little and not pay msrp.

I'll see how they do on the price. I don't want to buy new and have to put a new liner in and not be able to swap my end caps and grille. I will deal with the DC if that's the case :)

42k seems high to me. Have you tried Truecar.com? All dealer's should give the same trade in.

Tundras are in high demand here. We never get prices close to what some on here get. As far as price, the $42K quote on the 18 was $1,000 below invoice on Truecar.

Might be worth to travel? I called almost every dealer off the interstate in Oregon for mine.

Not sure if you’re a Costco or Sam’s club member but if you decide to go new look into their car buying programs. You might be surprised.

I am, but just as with True Car, it never shows there are authorized dealers in my area even when I try the zip code of both dealerships I've dealt with before.

Buy new...or lease new, if u want a cheaper payment. They wont come much off that price of $39k b/c honestly its only 1 year old and you say they are in high demand in your area. Just my .02

then again line X is only $700 to add at a local shop. It wouldn't stop me to purchase if it didn't have it.

I bought my 17 in CT with same options for less than they are selling that CPO one. The warranty helps but they need to come down some more for it to be worth it.

I picked up a ‘17 TRD Pro with 3900 miles on it for $41k. I would have purchased it with or without the CPO but having a longer warranty than a new car was a nice

Not sure how long the CPO warranty is but I bought my truck new with the 8yr/125k mile warranty. The warranty cost me $2500 but it covers everything. Breaks down to $26/mo which I thought was great insurance.

CPO worked out great for me. Got my 2015 with 42k miles for $29k after negotiations. I built the same truck on Toyota website with same options and came out to $38k. But the trucks that are low mileage and a year old tend to be the same as new around here. So every situation is different.

Are they at different dealers? If so I'd go try and workout a deal at both places. Also is the dealer that has the used one a Toyota dealer? If not you won't get the extended warranty for free so I'd go new.

As others have said expand your search. If you're willing to travel you might be able to get a better deal especially if they have a new 17 they are trying to unload.

You can swap the bumper ends in an 18. You can’t swap the grill until the new pro grill comes out.

I haven't read through his entire thread yet, so maybe someone's already said: a CM SR5 with TRD didn't cost the dealer more than about $37k new. Anything more is dealer add-ones + profit. I bought the Fighting Chance reports for all Tundra packages and options for 2017, and used that knowledge to get a great deal. Email me a picture of the window sticker on that new/used CM you're looking at, if you want me to figure out the dealer's cost new for that truck (which still doesn't take into account payments they got from Toyota the first time they sold it).

The warrantee on a CPO is so much better than the warrantee on a new truck, I'd trade in a heartbeat... if I don't lose a bunch of money.

Truck is still for sale. They lowered it to $39K :)

We are officially expecting baby number 2, so it has me thinking about putting an offer in.

TRD rear sway bar, console organizer, stubby antenna, LEDs for cabin, cargo, license plate, and reverse lights, power-fold mirrors, Westin nerf bars, full stereo upgrade. Future - color-match grill surround/bulge, mirror caps, handles, plasti-dip badges.
I just moved into an '18 Limited CM because of baby #2. I traded in a Tacoma double cab. My father has a '16 SR5 DC and even though it has 2-3 extra inches of rear leg room (compared to the Tacoma), the car seat was still tight. Would not fit rear-facing behind driver's seat. There is a TON of space in the CM with one front-facing car seat and the rear-facing infant carrier. I highly recommend the CM for 2 kids.
