WELCOME! If the back doors are bigger than the front doors, you have a crew max.

I don't own one, but I've pulled one 5 times and I've been visiting friends, gone to events, etc, at campgrounds more times than I could begin to count. I'm paranoid about breakdowns or getting boxed in somewhere so these are my basic rules.

--learn the hookup and unhook/leveling process inside and out, and store your chains/stabilizers, cotter pins somewhere safe and secure.

--Check your tires. Check the pressure, look for cracks, damage, etc. Possibly the worst situation you can be in is to be changing a trailer tire on the driver's side along the interstate. And if you have to do it, call for courtesy patrol so they can set up behind you with flashing lights.

--Go to a parking lot and practice (if you don't already have experience with trailers--I didn't). Learn your turning radius, gauge your wheel cutting points so you can finesse the trailer in there. stuff like that. Remember your wheel turns are opposite of how you would when driving something without a trailer. At some point farther into the process your wheel turns will be the other way, but getting started they'll be opposite. some people like to just hold the wheel at the bottom so that the direction your hand moves is the direction the tail of the trailer moves.

--Test and adjust the trailer brake before you go. Your truck has great brakes but they'll get hot in a hurry. Go slow. I always kept it at 60mph (pulling a 25ft camper with an 05 Ram hemi). You aren't saving a ton of time by running it 70+. Aat 60-65 you'll save some gas, but most importantly, you can stop the rig faster. When possible, let the truck slow by coasting. This is a bigger deal for off-ramps. You don't want to be hammering the brakes in that scenario.

--Plan your stops. If you're burning a full tank of gas on the trip, know the places you can stop and will have room to get the rig in and out without much hassle. The last thing you want is to hit a busy gas station. I also like to take the truck out from the campground solo and fill the tank before leaving. Saves you some hassle. Plan your route and know several places you can stop. I'm sure there are resources for this online. When you do hit a gas station or truck stop, stop once you enter and decide where you're headed and that you have a clear entry and exit. Have someone go snag the pump for you ahead of time so no vehicles sneak in while you're getting going.

--Verify the length of the campsite vs your trailer, tongue, AND truck length. If you cut it close it doesn't always work out. I've seen some janky setups at campgrounds because people either didn't get realistic about their setup, or were so desperate for a spot they just took whatever they could. If you want to get REALLY PJR202 about it, you can look at overhead views of the campground and see if there are trees opposite your site. Those can get in the way of the nose of your truck when backing in.

--------DO NOT BE AFRAID (or too proud) TO ASK ANOTHER CAMPER FOR HELP. PEOPLE LOVE THAT SHIT. FOR REAL.
Most of these guys and gals have pulled a camper a million times and are very knowledgeable and sympathetic to the needs of another camper. It's almost a family environment.

My ego is very small, so I've used a guide every time I've backed that sucker up. They're helpful for getting you dialed in just right to maximize the space beneath your awning, and VERY valuable for keeping an eye on kids and walkers that are complete morons and think it's fine to just walk behind the camper or past the nose of your truck. I did this in the dark one time with my dad spotting. It was infuriating. I had people going off the road because I was blocking it, and walking DIRECTLY BEHIND the camper as their alternate route! After we got it done and set up, a guy came over and said "That was an awesome job backing that thing in. It was nuts out here."

Which brings me to another critical piece of advice.

--Plan ahead so you aren't arriving in low light conditions. Leave LOTS of time.

    And another

--Understand your plumbing situation. Make sure you know how to empty your tanks (opening them up and driving down the road is easiest! JK) at the dump station (or how to connect if the site has a sewer hookup). BRING DISPOSABLE GLOVES and sanitizer. My dad freaks out if he gets poo on his hand or shoe. Cracks me up because he's not that type of guy normally. There's just something about someone else's feces that really gets him..haha.

OK that's all I can think of at the moment.
