Anyone ever built their own DIY bed rail system?

I am looking at using T-Slot framing across the bed in two spots but trying to find the best bracket solution to carry a solid load if need be.

Basically mimicking this design for 1/3 the cost is my objective.

The great thing about the T-slot framing is if you ever want to build a different system such as a higher overland style rack, it's modular and you can just add on to it.

    Cheers.

I made a set out of 2” square tubing and some angle iron. Less than $50 worth of supplies. The only picture I have is with the tent on and the bed loaded but I can post another of just the bars when I get home.

I've got a version percolating around my noggin... more headache rack, lumber rack, canoe kayak rack than Overlander, but once I have the bed rails dialed in, it will be highly flexible for different uses.

Like you, I'm using 8020 T-track. This is the profile I bought. It'll probably be thanksgiving before I get to experiment with the mounting.

If all goes well it will NOT interfere with my Tonneau, and will actually free up the bed tie down rails so I can use a cargo divider under the tonneau as well.
