So, I've been flinging a lil grease for some time and now have an actual visible tear. Do we have a consensus on oem vs aftermarket ( Porsche boot mod , high angle, neoprene etc) that is better than the next? I get the ribs shouldn't touch or they wear premature but dammit I haven't found anything other than keep your own axles. Nothing on which boots are beat or better definitely.
I don't think my angles are extreme. Thinking about OEM reboot kit but I don't wanna do things 2x either. I feel these could. Be stretched to avoid rib rubbing?
I also assume these are the original boots from a visual inspection and if they've made it this long why not do it again.

Don't.mind that repair, I used 3m 2228 moisture sealing electrical tape and got it on the axle and it spun that's why it looks awful. Was a good temp fix though.

I've seen people on here bitch about how their non-OEM boots were cracked all to hell in less than 2 years. I've never seen someone bitch about OEM boot kits tearing. Last time I looked up the boot kit it was under $100 also. Do you really want to pop your axles out twice to reboot later?

Nah, that was my thought too. They've lasted this long why not keep same. Just thought I'd ask. As for.popping out I'll figure it out, seems to be varying info on it.

Oh, I just mean ... pop out now, reboot, then pop out later to reboot if you use another brand that doesn't hold up. The Car Care Nut does have a good axle repack video though, not vehicle specific, but Toyota CV axle specific. Linking below.

ORS (off road solutions) does make a similar boot to OEM that's relatively inexpensive. They make the red high-angle boot some people gush about. I've heard mixed reviews, but mostly positive. Here's a link, though I've got no skin in this game.

OEM kit - I believe, but verify first - is p/n 04438-0C010 or 044380C010 depending on which format you prefer. I believe the kit is around $45-55, and each kit does one side, includes multiple clamps, two packs of grease, and two boots per kit.

EDIT: Adding another video I found that shows the reboot process from axle removal to reinstall and it looks good.

I used this boot kit last year 04438-0C020 for my 2004. It’s one hell of a messy job.

Yeah, I'm leaning on the OEM side. Just thought I'd ask for review from the forum. For 110 or so.ill be where I was plus price of the tool but I'll buy that on scaAmazon potentially.

huh? I just ordered 43430-0C010-84 for <$90 ea shipped - no core charge. With core, I saw them as low as $40. For that price, I'm not buying tools to change the boots when I can just swap the entire shaft.

One of the boots has ripped clean through and separated. Once they're here, I'll report back if there are any issues. I'm keeping the originals, but I doubt I'll swap the boots for a spare.

I did see that post from the guy who snapped a brand new aftermarket shaft a few days after install, so I'm staying away from those.

Really? I just ordered boots and asked about remanufactured cv axles and they said Toyota doesn't do them anymore?! Where did you order from? What year is your truck?

The partsdealdirect dealer in my area doesn't carry them either. I googled the part and this was the only place that had no core charge.
    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/

Says they only carry OEM, so I'll see when they arrive. Mine is a 2001.

I went with reman OEM from CVJ with the red extended angle boot just to give it a try, and I plan on increasing my axle angles next year when I add lift.
If not for that I'd have gone OEM all the way. Horror stories about aftermarket.

It looks like prices are down again at the moment. MSRP right now is $115 on the reman axle with that part number given. My usually-cheaper local dealership has them at under $90 through the Toyota Parts site, but with $75 core - cheapest price I've seen them in probably 18 months.

Check your local participating dealerships here, scroll down the page and click the 'Go To Dealer Site' button on a few dealerships to check prices: https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/reman-shaft-assy-fr-drive-434300c01084

I just called 2 different dealerships closest to me and they say there are 400 on backorder and none in the country. Also said it could be 1-2 months on something like that.
Super curious if that Toyota parts deal site sends legit OEM. Please update when ya get em @Richid .

That sounds like the price for new - part# 43430-0C010, the '-84' is the reman.

Toyota Parts Deal is part of a dealer network and they source parts from multiple dealers I believe. Just because it doesn't say backordered or out of stock on their website, doesn't mean there is stock available.

Their prices are good, but their customer service is horrible. It took forever for them to let me know one of my items was backordered and they wanted to hold the rest of my items until the backordered part came in. I personally will never use them again.

I placed an order for a Reman CV axle at another dealer and they quoted me two weeks wait, but it came in after a little over a week.

That sounds more believable, because I just bought reman'd axle a couple months ago and they were $130 ea + core (which I had to eat). Had to call the dealership to order, as my online orders were getting cancelled because of the national backorder.

And yes, toyotapartsdeal.com is legit, but as @des2mtn said, customer service is lacking. I use their site more for finding and researching part #'s now.

Bullshit, Walter! If that is legit then you should buy 4...I'll take 2!

Looks like I'm gonna get messy after all. Gonna go find a brass drift and order a knockoff crimp tool highly doubt they loan that better Toyota version at AutoZone. Thanks for the input y'all.

I haven't heard anything from them other than the generic order confirmation email. How did you find a dealer with stock - did you just email/call individually?

My guess is that if they are hard to locate, my order will just get stuck in back order and I'll need to source my own, so any tips on finding stock would be appreciated.

They said there are 400 of them on backorder everywhere I called. 1 parts department said there is 1 in stock at another dealership, they are verifying it's actually there haven't heard back yet (that was with the little chat screen on their site so who's knows if I'll actually hear anything).

Yes, there is an "availability" email on the main website when looking at the part itself. I'll try to look through me email and find it...

Just call a dealership, any of them, and give them the part # you have (43430-0C010-84). They can see what is stocked and "in transit"... which is really just backordered requests.

edit: oops, thought I was editing a previous post, not making a new one.

I have a feeling Toyota Parts Deal is going to send you an email asking about the cores before they actually ship it FYI. They charge it separately https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/service/toyota-core_policy.html

There's two dealers I source mine from that are local to me and I always pick up in person and turn in my old cores at the same time.

The dealer that is closer to me is through https://autoparts.toyotaofelcajon.com/products/product/reman-shaft-assy-fr-drive-434300c01084 . However, for a long time, they were double the price at this dealership and all autoparts.toyota.com dealerships as @shifty` mentioned.

The dealer that is farther from me uses a different parts website and the price didn't double at all. IF YOU ARE IN SOCAL, THEY'RE ACTUALLY ONLY $40 RIGHT NOW, holy crap. https://parts.longotoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-remanufactured-shaft-assembly-front-434300c01084

I have two spare remans in my parts pile already and no cores to turn in otherwise I'd be buying them. Damn it.

Same price and deal with the core for at least one dealer near me. Strangely some of the bigger ones like Boch don’t have them.

Longo and McGeorge consistently come back in Google searches for parts when I look.

Honestly, at the price, I'm almost tempted to get a couple of JY axles as cores to return just to have a couple of spares on-hand.

Actually, if Longo is doing the FREESHIP coupon, and they're $40 cheaper than my local dealership, honestly ... it almost makes sense just to buy them from Longo and not worry about the damn core.
