I’ve been trying to find a solution to mount a dash cam (probably Garmin mini 2) on the dash area with the cigarette lighter. I know there is the option to get the Donger cord and mount it up behind the mirror but I don’t want to pull apart the sunglasses console and either break a clip or cause rattles. I also don’t know how long anything will stick to the windshield in the Vegas heat. Has anyone mounted this on the dash itself? And if anyone has, what mount did you use and what view did the camera have? Other camera examples are welcome too, thank you.

note: I want the dash cam just for driving in case of an incident. Parking mode would be nice but don’t want to drain the battery or deal with hooking things to the battery.

I'm pretty sure you could get a magnet mount to work with whatever dash cam you pick. I also got the GoPro mount in case I ever get one.

I'd like an actual connection rather than just a magnet. Nobody else mounts it down low on the dash!? I thought for sure someone would have responded by now with a photo of their solution and the dash cam they use.

On a side note, does the Donger Tech option (mounting high behind mirror) offer a constant power option for parking? And if I have the digital mirror, which would I want to buy (5 pin?)

    No.
For the same reasons as to why we don't mount our dash cams just above we...the dash, either.

While real world effectiveness difference of radar detector mounted low vs high will probably be somewhat negligible, we'll take ALL the performance we can get, and don't want to hinder it on purpose. It's also much easier and less distracting (thus safer) to have the detector screen at eye level, or close to it, instead of having to look down.
Basically: low dash mount = n00b settings.

I’m not debating that it’s not as good as the high windshield placement. However, I know a lot of people complain about rattles with this generation of tundras, and I don’t want to take apart things that might help cause them. Also, living in a high heat area of the country means suction cups and adhesive doesn’t work that great as they eventually fall. That’s why I’m thinking about down low, just don’t have an idea yet how to pull it off

I still can't find any examples of mounts to mount the dash cam to this tray:

    https://www.bulletpointmountingsolu...-toyota-tundra-dash-mount-phone-device-holder

Anyone that has done it, have the mount link? I think the Garmin Mini 2 is out because it doesn't have rotate image from what im finding. So Im on to maybe the Venture E1.... I also have discovered an issue with a lot of these dash cams using wi-fi which interferes with the wireless CarPlay. How have people been getting around that?

    Wait,
This whole time I thought you meant to "low mount" a radar detector...I have no idea why I had this in my mind, even though you clearly wrote about "dash cam."

    Regardless,
I'm only commenting again to reinforce my previous reply. You really want to block off a lot of your dash cam's field of view with a hood line?
You're on your own my friend then...

    PS:
I have yet to hear/see about anyone's dash cam falling off, when mounted with VHB tape; they weigh almost nothing!
GL (and looks like you'll spend as much $$ on your mount solution as an average dash cam, lol)

I like my garmin. The double side tape is holding in Texas heat. But after three years the video image is red now. Not sure if it’s the memory card going bad or the camera. Been too lazy to get another card to find out.

After spending some time on research, I think the Vantrue E1 offers more features for basically the same price. Does anyone know which dongle I would need to buy to attach it to the digital rear mirror if I were to go that route? And do I have to remove the sunglasses section or just the plastic cover by the mirror?

This is what I ended up with so far, which actually is sticking really good. It isn’t in my field of view at all and the video captures everything from my pillars forward pretty much. I was looking for some sort of platform to place in that tray area to hold it up but couldn’t find anything yet. Went with the Vantrue E1 because you can disconnect the camera quickly if I don’t want it out. Can easily get past to put up the window shade too! Very happy so far, just need a tray so I don’t have to mount on the top of the screen.

I looked into that but their reviews weren’t the best. I really like the placement I have it if I can find some flat tray that isn’t too expensive to place it on.

I just dont like extra stuff stuck to the dash or glass because all it is doing is inviting the crack heads to rip you off. I will say the Reviews on Fitcam weren't the greatest but most people dont even know how to run their phone so then go on line and bitch when its really their stupidity causing the issue. I get 4K video accessed thru the app so good for me.

Post up some video of yours in action

That’s the beauty of this E1 I got. It magnetically connects and can quickly disconnect to hide somewhere. But I get what you are saying!

I have the dash mount from ics and I love it. It comes with 2 mounts that actually rest on the AC vents to give more stability.

Isn’t that like $120!? I know of that one and the bulletpoint one but I don’t feel like spending $100-150 for that when all it’s going to be used for is to mount the dash cam a bit higher and in front of the screen.

I'm looking at purchasing the FitcamX for my tundra. Do you have any updates or complaints on the one you purchased?

The only thing I had which I won't call a complaint, but more for my needs. The camera goes into sleep mode when vehicle is off, and locked.....if the vehicle detects a HIT, it starts recording. Well that's great if you drive everyday but our vehicle can sit a week unlocked in the garage recording, so kept killing the battery in the Lexus. We also go away a month a year to the Cayman Islands and the battery would be dead upon return So I got on the chat, explained the issue and they send another dongle ( free) so when vehicle is off, camera is off as well which works 100% for us. No problem since. Incredible videos. My wife works part time and I retired at 55 so vehicle use isn't the same as someone who drives daily.
