Finalizing the sale on my 2021 Tundra, wondering if it’s worth paying for the extra protection add ons such as xzilon paint protection, undercoating and rust sealant.

We live in Vancouver BC and our winters are mild and rainy but we do spend most of our winter weekends up on the snow hills so there is definitely salt exposure.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm from Southern California (got family in Abbottsford, BC) so I can't comment about the undercoating or rust sealant, but the Xzilon paint protection is crappy. You would be better off just using a spray on, wipe off ceramic or graphene product on your own.

The only thing I found to be worth it was the GAP insurance for a couple years and the alarm with the immobilizer. Both of those cost me 25 a month together. Well worth it for the price of 2 burger combos.

Having worked in internet sales at a Toyota dealership I can honestly tell you no, they are not worth it. That is unless of course you can negotiate them into the deal, example: I’ll sign today if you can add those extras in for free. (And don’t let them work it into the monthly payments to hide the extra cost)

Even then, some things may be worth it while others are not so make sure you do your research and know exactly what they are doing. At the end of the day, dealerships are in the business of making money and they are not giving you these add ons at their cost. They mark it up a ton, so if you find an another business that can do tint, undercoating, etc it will almost always be cheaper and often made with better quality products!

edit: I’d also search/post in the 3rd gen forum since you’re looking at a 2021

Remember that the dealership tries to make as much on the back end (add-ons by the finance person) as they do the front end (sale of vehicle markup). Otherwise stated they make as much money (about $2500 to $3500) on a $40-50,000 truck as on a few little aftermarket items. If you really want the add-ons then buy them separately from someone else. Listen to the experience of @pyrite808.
