Took my 2006 tundra to Toyota so they could reprogram it for a new key fob as mine broke. I was told they couldn’t do it. They weren’t sure why not. Told me to try to find an original 2006 fob.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be and how to fix it? I really need a fob that works.

Specifically, the “keys” section of that thread. We can’t tell you much because you don’t bother to tell us your cab type. That thread will explain why cab type info is important.

Dealer is likely full of shit though. Unless the system is port or aftermarket, Techstream will let them program it.

To add to this, the average age of technician these days is about the same age as some of our trucks. Most likely they don't know how and didn't bother to look it up.

If you still have the old fob, the FCCID on the back would be useful too (if it is there).
