I just bought a used are camper shell and decked system. System was backordered but shell was down the road. Now I hear the system will be here this week. Has anyone installed a decked system without removing the camper shell? Can it be done? Thanks in advance

I don’t see why the ARE shell would affect installing the Decked. Per the Decked instructions you assemble the Decked system in two pieces and all outside of the bed. Then you put each half in the bed and it uses bed tie downs at the four corners and a bunch of hardware down the center of the two halves to mate them together. It doesn’t use the utility rail system for attachment.

Would be easier without a shell over you but not undoable

I am not sure how high the interior ceiling height of your shell is, but as long as you can crawl on your hands and knees inside of it, you will not have any issues. As mentioned above, you will assemble two large pieces off a spine in the middle. You will then anchor it to the tie downs in the corners through the four external corner storage compartments. After that, installing the drawers is all done standing at the tailgate.

I installed my decked with an are cap on the truck. It wasn’t hard. Like others said, you just be crawling on your knees under it to tighten the bolts and stuff.

No problem at all! As the others have noted above you will slide in the two sides of the DECKED system and screw everything together within the bed. No need to remove your topper.

If you have any questions while doing the install don't hesitate to reach out to our support team - orders@decked.com (209)806-0251

Thanks everyone. Knocked it out today. Decked videos and instructions are awesome but I have to say the company that shipped the system screwed me over badly. I was missing parts and a bag of screws. Super pissed but not decked’s fault.
You can indeed install it without removing the camper shell. However it’s freaking uncomfortable. Also get a friend to help you load it and align it. I did it by myself but would’ve been faster with two people.

    anyway thanks everyone for answering

Glad you were able to get that installed! If you have a moment, would you mind forwarding those photos to our support team? orders@decked.com.

That is 100% unacceptable and we always need to record these instances to be sure that doesn't happen again.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

That is definitely not normal for a package to arrive like that. We are guessing they hired a new fork lift driver... Either way, we will be happy to get those parts sent out and want to take note of the damaged goods to help avoid this in the future.

Please forward those photos and any missing parts to orders@decked.com and they will get you set up as soon as possible.

    Thanks,

I see this all the time...vendor makes minimal effort to protect the contents...as seen here...huge box, no protective crate and box says, “no forklift”, which really is a legal disclaimer for the vendor to absolve themselves of any responsibility for doing a lousy job of packaging their product...passes the buck on to the shipper. Next, the shipper, who ALL use forklifts extensively, hits and damages the box with forklift b/c there is no crate AND no one in a shipping warehouse is going to physically touch or pick up anything without a forklift or pallet jack. Vendor blames shipper and shipper generally doesn’t GAF because there is ZERO accountability on any side of this equation.

Standard act these days. The time and money spent in customer service to send new parts would easily cover the extra cost to package the product properly.

Good on Decked for making you whole on the missing parts but this should never happen.

We couldn't agree more. This should never happen, and thankfully, it is not something that happens often to our shipments. Unfortunately, mistakes can be made on our end with packaging or on the shipping end. Either way we always are here to ensure our customers have the product that they ordered and if there are ever any damages to the product before it shows up then we will take full responsibility and send out replacement products.

Let us know if you have any questions.

I work in automation and tools as able to fit most of my must have tools in one drawer. Unfortunately one of the dboxes got beat up pretty bad so I borrowed one for this photo to show space
    It is empty

Just a heads up talked to decked and sent the photos have t gotten a reply yet but I will keep you in the loop.
Honestly for the cost I’m pissed. If this had been a cheap system I’d just write it all off and be done with it. Hell for the overall all cost of $1500 I didn’t even get a sticker or hat. Much less I got a broken dbox and missing ammo cap and no bolts.
But who knows maybe they will make this right.

Just wanted to follow up to make sure you have been followed up with. Our support team mentioned that they responded to your email on Tuesday night. Have you seen their response yet? If you need anything else feel free to follow up on here and we can push the process along.

For anyone else that experiences a box that shows up in this way the best plan of action would be to refuse the package, take a few photos, and send them directly to our support team (orders@decked.com). We are always happy to send out replacement parts if needed but sometimes it can be easier to just get you a full new system in a pristine, well cared for box ;)

Has anyone introduced the Op to Kaizen foam?

    https://kaizeninserts.com/

As for the crappy shipping company job, that could have been any product. Wheels, tires, suspension kit. I’ve seen it all show up to customers homes, distributors warehouses and vendors places of business. It’s not @DECKEDUSA fault. I don’t know what their support team has done for you, but I will bet it’s all taken care of. They are one of the few vendors who actually show up on a forum when shots are fired. No, I have no affiliation to them at all other than they make good stuff and actually care. RCI off-road. Same way. Rago. Same way. Stuff shows up bent, broken and missing. They handle it.

I have no doubt DECKED will make it right. I got a first gen system for a 5.5ft bed and installed myself w/custom anchor points in my 6.6ft bed. Its a first gen system without alot of the improvements they have made over the years but I got a great deal on it. They were responsive to all my questions about the system, even though it was a early build and they wouldn't have many parts available for me should I need in the future, but I love the system.

yeah I know you're right. Unfortunately that wasn't really an option for me. I need my truck for my job and the decked system was a big part of me not using coolers and five gallon buckets for tool and part storage. I talked to your office and my replacement parts are en route.

Honestly I didn't put any hate on them. They've been legit. Great people and great customer service. My posting was more a heads up to them that the shipping company sucked and they might want to send their business elsewhere. Also those Kaizen inserts are sexy. I think my AR wants one.

    I totally understand and agree.

As for your AR, if you get the foam, I highly suggest the cut kit they sell also. I have one and it makes everything easier.

Personally not a fan of custom cut foam for guns in *most* cases. Locks you into a particular configuration and just isn't worth it IMO. I prefer to just put the rifle in a padded case (leave it unzipped if you want). Just food for thought.

I don’t have the foam for that reason either. I have a Safariland three gun soft case and it fits easily in the decked drawer. Any long gun soft case will fit with plenty of extra room. I use the foam in my D boxes.
