Hello everyone. First thank you for your welcome to the forum last week.

Before I take any heat ;-), i know there is a search function with a ton of information on tonneaus and particularly Diamondback. I assure you I've spent hours going through. I'm 90% sure I've decided on DB but now I'm having trouble deciding with the Switchback being so new. May I get some of your opinions, please?

My truck will be used primarily for: Travel hockey trips, beach days and hopefully more and more camping trips. Of course a few times a year with home depot runs of mulch, 2x4s etc.

Diamondback is a little excessive for my needs but it seems that decent covers are going to cost ~$1k and still have isseus so the SE/Switchback after 10% discount isn't that much of a $$ difference for superior quality.

Pros/Cons of each from my perspective

    SE:
Pros: Tried and true as it's been out for years. I like the handle to open the cover which seems quality and easy. Can get to back of the bed easy but that's probably not a huge deal.

Cons: My wife and I envision my three boys hanging out in the the bed of the truck often on trips and while beaching. This has a smaller space to do that if only flipped open. For full bed access it seems a little more difficult to take apart.

    Switchback:
Pros: My boys get more space to be in the bed if folded up and if full bed is needed for them or tall gear it seems easier to take off.

Cons: Just came out and reviews are minimal. The latches to open the cover seem like a nuisance to do compared to the SE and honestly to me the quality seems like a big downgrade compared to SE latch system.

I look forward to any opinions/recommendations I get. Ultimately I have to be the one to decide but I will carefully consider any feedback. Thank you!

Just wondering if you made a choice, and if so, why?
I’m now in the same position trying to decide between Se or switchback.

both quality products backed by good customer service. My thoughts:

switchback seems less secure (what’s holding down the middle panel other than the first and last panel)
Switchback easier/faster to remove and reinstall and can also be installed by one person

assuming both are as secure…… it’s a matter of clamshell vs flip.

I currently have a vinyl roll up. I need more security.

I have the SE for the past couple of years and have been very happy with it.

I’m sorry that I never responded, as I was away camping.

I chickened out and got a cheap roll-up, which already broke and they refused to refund me but did send me a new one. I wish I went Diamondback.

Take it for what it’s worth, but in all my research I think the way to go is HD from the outlet and get it roughly the same price as an SE. I don’t love the switchback. Get the HD at 20% off and never have to worry about you and your spouse sitting on top of the cover with a packed cooler, or packing extra stuff on for a long vacation, or for work items which trucks used to be for.
