What makes you think you need one? Are you going with a really aggressive lift? Just curious.

So far, the only place I've seen a diff drop mentioned is with Rough Country. They include a diff drop kit with their 6" lift kit.

I haven't seen any other manufacturer out there offering a ~3" lift (Icon, Adventure Motors, Westcott, etc) offer a diff drop or mention that it's even recommended. I don't believe that Toyota includes one either in their 3" OEM TRD lift kit, but's been awhile since I've looked at that parts list.

Edit: Just checked the parts list for the Tundra OEM lift kit. Does not list a differential drop included for their 3".

I'm preparing my kit and starting to get all the pieces I need for my ~3" lift. From everything I've read, the consensus is if the lift is > 2.5", get a diff drop. But it sounds like the 3rd Gens are different?

I'm not sure it's going to be needed, but as more & more people lift their trucks and stress test the suspension with increased articulation...we might found out differently down the road.

At current: I've been running 2" spacers on my truck since ~Feb without any issue or driveline vibration in 4H. I've wheeled it on some trails that maxed out the factory articulation too.

I'm waiting on my Icon Stage 4 kit to come in (probably another 8 weeks or out) and I'll bump the coilovers to 3" up front, depending on the rake with my winch bumper. I'll be putting in new UCAs, but haven't planned for a diff drop yet. Likely a sway bar drop since the Icon kit includes it.

I asked the shop when I ordered the Icon kit if a diff drop is needed and they agreed it likely wouldn't be needed at 3". The shop I'll be using for the Icon install has installed many 3/1 Westcott kits (they're the main Westcott dealer in Vegas, as I understand it) and they've haven't seen the need for a diff drop with the Westcott 3/1 kit.

I've kinda been using the Toyota 3" kit as my guide for what is and isn't needed. If the Toyota engineers don't think a diff drop is needed at 3" since it isn't included in the kit, then you'll probably be able to go without it.

Loads of peeps have been running that kit now and I haven't seen any mention it on the forums. @bigjuice has been running that kit for a long time now...he might weigh in on the need for a diff drop on his Westcott 3/1.

it sounds like we're going to be running the same setup. I'm also awaiting the Icon kit for my lift. Good point in referencing the Toyota factory lift kit for necessity of the diff drop. Which shop are you using in Vegas? I may make the trip down there from St. George if the shop is reputable. Especially if they've done a bunch of 3rd Gen Tundra lifts.

From what Michael at Adventure Motors told me, it is nearly impossible to do a diff drop on the 22 tundras... will be interesting to see what hot garbage RC has.

I'm using Battle Born Offroad for the Icon install. Ordered the kit through them too. When I ordered my Icon kit last month, they said they been installing quite a bit of Westcott kits on 3rd Gens. They've been toying around with suspension lifts, but pretty much waiting on the big companies like Icon, King, Fox, etc to release their kits instead of trying to hodge-podge something together like some other shops.

Still a little up in the air what I want do for the rear. I want to go up an inch, but since I don't plan on running a ton of overland toys/camping toys in my bed often...I'm wondering if the Dobinsons springs might be too much. I might go with a 1" spacer in the rear for awhile until I start accumulating more gear. It'll probably be a year until I invest in a full bed rack, an RTT, and drawer system for the bed. We're still doing some home remodeling so I need to keep the bed open for dump runs for awhile longer. haha.

If you're serious about going with them, I'll DM you the contact info for the contact I've been working with there. I'm not sure he would want his cell # put out on blast in a public forum. lol.

It's very worrisome. They have you remove the diff completely, chop up the front cross member, bolt in their diff bracket, and then install their new cross member.

The diff drop horror starts on Page 7 and goes until Page 10 of their instructions.

Jesus christ that lift has some ridiculous solutions. WTF is that sway bar drop bracket? I have an RC lift on my Jeep which only consists of 2" spacers and some brackets, but I would be very much not OK with installing that much of their stuff on my truck.

Also, if you need 6" of lift on your truck, you are probably either mudding, where you want some beefy components, or hitting some pretty hard trails where the stock suspension components will not suffice. This lift is pointless!

I have to believe that whatever passes for a product development team at RC has a giant poster of Ricky Bobby in their office that says, "If you ain't first, you're last!"

Their priority always seems to be first to market vs quality. Works for them, I suppose. They obviously make money. lol. It also explains their "quality" reputation.

according to Icon's part list for Stage 4, the rear shocks should have a 0-1" lift. Not sure if that means it's adjustable or not:

    • SYSTEM COMPONENTS:
      • 58670 (QTY: 1) | 22-UP TUNDRA 2.5 VS IR COILOVER KIT
      • 58461DJ (QTY: 1) | 22-UP TUNDRA TUBULAR UCA DJ PRO KIT
      • 55154 (QTY: 1) | 22-UP TUNDRA SWAY BAR DROP KIT
      • 56516 (QTY: 2) | 22-UP TUNDRA 0-1" REAR 2.0 VS IR

also, yes, please DM me his contact!
    thank you sir!

The shocks are capable of 1" of extension beyond the OE shocks. However, shocks alone don't lift anything since they carry no weight. Only springs or a spring spacer will lift anything. Shocks merely control the spring recoil and limit droop. :)

Sure thing. I'll shoot it over now.

Yup…I (and 100’s of others) have been running it at that 3” going on 6+ months indeed and haven’t had any issues that suggested a diff drop kit is needed.

As @KroppDuster mention the OEM TRD lift that’s hitting markets is a good guide…as conservative as Toyota is they would have recommended it (or not put a warranty on their lift) if they were worried.

Along the same lines, does the new Tundra turn the front axles when in 2wd? I know my Ram had a disconnect that the front driveshaft wouldn't turn when in 2wd which saves on wear and tear especially when they are lifted without dropping the front differential.
