I enjoy reading this forum but am not much of a poster. However, I wanted to share what I think it a disappointing experience with BAKFlip. If anything, maybe others will avoid the same issues, particularly with damage to your truck's paint.

    Issue 1:

Last summer I started shopping for a tonneau cover. I called and spoke with BAK and was told that the BAKFlip G2 integrates with the rail system without having to move the rails. That was counter to everything I read but they were adamant that recent changes allowed for it. I bought it and once delivered, learned that it did not integrate without having to move the rails. Ok... no big deal. I called them and was told that it's really the MX4 that integrates without moving the rails. The rep made a mistake. I was doubtful but needed a cover regardless so went ahead and bought the MX4. They covered the return shipping on the G2 so was happy there. Of course once I got the MX4, I quickly learned that it does not integrate without having to move the rails either. Fine... I needed a cover so just rolled with it.

    Issue 2:

About 10 months later I needed to take the cover off to move a large item in the bed of my truck. When I removed the MX4, I noticed that two dime sized holes had been rubbed into the paint down to the sheet metal. The screw heads, used to fasten the female end of the buckle for securing the folding cover when folded up, had been placed a too far forward creating and edge that rubbed into the paint. The problems was limited to one side and no such damage occurred on the other side of the truck. It is clearly a manufactures defect. This is a 1.5 year old Tundra Limited and while the holes are very small, I was none the less unhappy about the damage.

I contacted BAK and informed them of the problem. They asked that I take a bunch of pictures and send to them. I did. Later they came back and asked that I get quotes to repair the paint, which I did. They came back 6 weeks later saying they denied any warranty claim for the damage done to my truck. The rep I've been dealing with said she appealed the decision but that was a month ago and she is not responding to my inquiries.

I get it, it's a truck and trucks should get worked but I'm very unhappy with the way this company handled the situation. The MX4 is one of their most expensive covers and should not rub holes, of any size, into the paint. Couple that with their inability to get the product information right and it's downright angering.

If you choose to buy one of their covers, I strongly recommend you check while installing to make sure there aren't any issues that are going to damage your truck. Trust me, they don't care if they do.

Have had Bakflip covers for over a decade with zero issue. 3 years on my mx4 and not a single issue.

Hopefully the pics uploaded. One pic shows the screw heads past the edge. They were not over the edge on the other side of the cover. Second picture shows the holes they rubbed into the paint. Again, not huge but for a $900 cover, it seems like sloppy work and it'd be nice if they at least offered to make my paint right. If it were my company, I sure as heck would.

It looks like the cover was installed too far forward.

Also where is the front weatherstripping?

Touch up paint. Sucks...seems to be an install issue. Very few problems reported here with Bak's

Weather-stripping is there, it's just the angle of the pic. Try this pic. Its from the other side and you'll see the screw heads don't lead off the edge. To fix the side with damage, I had to file the edges of those screw heads down to make them flush with the edge. I put some black magic marker where the the holes in the paint are and the rubbing has has stopped since I filed the edge of the screw heads off.

I understand stuff gets by quality control at even the best company's. But great company's stand by their product and fix things when they make a mistake.

I get that totally, but I still think it's an install issue. Lots of folks here have the Bak's. Highly regarded. This is the first post regarding your issue. I'm not making light of your complaint but......did you do the install?

I have bed liner on mine so I am unable to see any damage like yours OP.

BakFlip customer service is piss poor in all honesty and I have had a terrible experience this time around. Never again will I purchase Bakflip and the build quality has become a step better than piss poor.

I understand your frustration with the company as a whole. Whether you installed too far forward or not, I simply cannot say.

I don't have that weather stripping. I don't recall seeing it and I don't have it with the left over packaging and stuff that came with the cover. But I don't think it matters. Those screw heads on the passenger side should not go past that edge. They are not past the edge on the driver side and there is no damage there. Since filing them flush on the passenger side, the rubbing has stopped. The weather stripping also appears to sit higher than the contact point. And it's weather stripping.... not designed to be a friction buffer between two steel objects.

There would be no reason to build in a design where those heads can come in contact with the body and I'm betting the didn't design it that way. They just got sloppy when drilling the holes. Nor has BAKFlip cited a bad install as the cause or disputed my claim. They just said they won't warranty it.

I do appreciate everyone's comments. Folks can draw their own conclusions but if I were buying one of their products, I'd be checking it over closely.
