because they scratched all four of my Fuel Assaults yesterday, when putting new tires on. Cool store manager, he said if I want to go with something else, just let him know. Opinions? 35*12.50*20 tires, 6" lift.

Pic of the Assaults, with the crappy Coopers I had pulled off after 5K miles:

What was the issue with the Coopers? Curious because I've been running the AT3 XLT's for about 20k miles now.

DT gave me full credit for Cooper XLTs I purchased from them, ran them for 9k miles and would never balance or handle right. DT took them, credited full cost. I switched to wildpeaks and those have been great.
DT is a great store, always had great experiences and service from them.

I've got the XLT AT3's and I have to have them balanced every time I rotate. Then that only lasts for a little while and the vibrations are back. I was told that my TRD Off Road rims and the tires are the problem. That coming from Tire Choice where I have lifetime balance and rotation. I have suggested that the tires are the issue and the store manager that I use told me it was both and they do not have the adapter that makes the rim centered that Toyota uses. Anyone else ever heard this?

I have had a similar experience. My goto tire shop says it’s difficult to center Toyota rims and they get 50-50 callbacks on Toyotas due to bad balancing. The owner did the balancing on my return trip without issue. And my next tires on different Toyota rims had no issue. I believe it’s a common sense operator issue which is hard to find these days.

If there is a Toyota wheel adapter, how much can it actually cost and avoid the nonsense callbacks?!

Agreed. You would think that the National tire chains could purchase the necessary tools to satisfy their Customers, unless Toyota protects that as a dealer only item. I was looking at powder coating my rims, but due to the balance issue, I am currently shopping rims.

in my case the tires were clearly defective. At first I thought it the squirrely feeling on the highway was changing from SL to E load tires. Thought with some miles they would set in and perform better. They did get a bit better, but never felt stable at speed. Add in rebalance visits every 2k miles and something was wrong. Had one tire get a split in the sidewall, replaced. Then the last time I was about to go back in for rebalance I noticed how much weight was needed on two of the tires. I posted a pic here, probably in the cooper xlt thread or maybe my post when I had the tires swapped.

But, not had any issues with the wildpeaks, night and day different in handling and ride and they have been able to balance them no issue.

I do agree Tundras are picky about wheel balance, off just a little and you are going to know. Was not the case with other 4wds I have owned.

DT replaced two sets of tires on my 17'. I am currently running 35" Cooper XLT3 and they have outperformed both the Toyo AT2's BFG KO2's which is what they returned due to having balancing issues. My Coopers still have a very slight vibration at 65MPH-67MPH but America's tire has never been great for balancing my stuff either. I have found other shops who do a way better job but DT has AMAZING customer service I will say that. When I had the KO2's and AT2's my truck shook like a sinner in church at freeway speeds no matter how many times they balanced them.

Okay, I guess this has turned into a Cooper tire thread! ;)

I have a few posts in the Cooper AT3 thread, but the Clif’s Notes version is that they were hot garbage. The amount of weights needed to balance them was unbelievable, and the steering wheel shake kept coming back. 5K miles, balanced 3 times, and the last time, (last week), the situation got worse, with shake from 42-55… I went back this week and had them put AintYoMama Geolanders on, based on a rec from a guy that owns a custom wheel business.

The Coopers made the ProComps that were on the truck when I bought it feel like magic carpets. They were quiet, but the second worst tires on any vehicle I’ve ever driven, right behind the Firestones on my wife’s Explorer when I first met her.

Yeah, those Firestones. It was 2000.

You would think… DT didn’t have the correct socket to pull the locking lug off on my Tundy. I let them use mine, and they promptly lost the bag the socket was in. The bag had the part number on it, and the fools couldn’t find the bag.

I've had problems with NTB in the past when they couldn't get my tires balanced. Same thing, vibration at 60-65. Then i went to my new guy at a Goodyear shop and they had Road Force balancing and 5000 miles later no problems, even at 80-85, Love the Road Force balancing. Stock rims and Michelins.
