Discount Tire not recognizing 265/65/17 as stock for 03 Tundras

I may have posted this before, but I’ve got 265/65/17 tires on my tundra, but Discount Tire doesn’t have them as a stock wheel/tire setup for my ‘03. And they are stock from the factory, per the door sticker and knowing the past owners (family members).

Whenever I'm in doubt, there are certain fitment sources I check online. Like, if it's audio, I go to Crutchfield.com and if I need to know what fits OEM on tires, I go to TireRack.com

I plugged in your truck at TireRack and this is what comes out - I've never seen Discount Tire get it wrong, maybe the person you spoke with heard Tacoma, not Tundra?

No, this was me just doing it online. Kinda strange. Not a big deal, just weird that it’s not listed as an optional size.
And yes, I am off work today due to snow and bored…lol

It's a ferkup in their app. if you change to 2003 Limited 4x4, it comes back with the right size.

Hmm….just noticed it was listed under an available tire size for ‘04. Build date is 07/03.

It's also possible yours didn't originally come with 17" stock. The original owner may've swapped out or even asked the dealer upgrade to 17s.

Only way to know for sure, I guess, would be to plug your VIN in here and confirm you're not a robot: https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

That'll give you the build/sale details of your truck. I thought they were requiring an account based on a link we saw yesterday, but apparently not.

This was my general thought when I posted that last thing. OP should be able to confirm what the truck shipped with at the link I gave if he plugs in the VIN.

Regardless of what's on it, if it has OEM 17's, he'll need to go with what's on it.

Strangely, Tire Rack offers it as an option, there must be some reasoning there...

Slap some 265/70r17’s on there and enjoy a more filled out wheel well.

Hell, no harm in going 275/70r17, others are doing it on stuck suspension with no rubbing. Speedo will be off if you don't adjust. That's ultimately what I'm doing in 2022, coming soon.

    I think that generally Limited's were 17's and SR5/base were 16's. You could definitely order a SR5 with 17's and a Limited with 16's.

    +1

IMHO the stock 265/70-16 and 265/65-17 (which are essentially the same size tire) are visually just slightly undersized for the wheel well on a stock truck. 265/75-16 or 265/70-17 to me just look right.

    The 245/70-16 look silly, IMHO.

When I first got my truck and was still learning about tire sizes, I got 285s. I then saw a neighbor with a first gen and thought his tires looked perfect. He had no lift, just the trd 4x4 coils, and 265/75/16 BFG. I wished I knew about that size at the time.

OP, if you know they fit and are the appropriate load, just search by tire size. Thats what I've always done since it gets rid of the vehicle suggestion limitations.

Doesn't matter what Discount Tire thinks. I run one size larger on my Tundra (265/70R18). It isn't listed either. But I tell 'em to put them on anyway. I never got an argument from anyone.

No argument at all. They never gave me an issue at the shop, because they are pretty decent at what they do. In fact, one of the sales guys did me a solid when I needed 4 tires for the wife’s van and they only had three on hand and one from another location was going out of state. He called the other location and said I have a customer here locally that needs that 4th tire, please send it over…and they did. Sadly the only thing that they kill me on is the road hazard warranty. Cheaped out one time on our Mini Cooper, and go an non repairable flat…had to fork out $$$ for a new tire instead of the warranty covering it.

There've been a few discussions on this one in the 1st gen forum, debating whether it's worthwhile or not.

Over here it's normally $35/tire if I recall, and it's saved me hundreds over the life of my tires. ATL has lots of miles of interstates to keep clean, which means lots of debris between cleaning. Construction has been nuts the last 2 decades, so lots of commercial/residential construction debris on the surface streets. Hell, my post on here just a few days ago where I took a sidewinder key blade through my rear tire is a great example. But I've also taken a section of rebar through a tire at the I-20/I-75 exchange.

TireRack throws in the coverage for free if you buy a set, possibly if it exceeds a certain cost, and I appreciate that. I wish Discount would as well, but I get it. Everyone is different on whether they want to pony up that extra $100-something it comes out to for a full set, but every time I'm buying a tire over $125-150/ea, I'm getting Discount's warranty.

Im using the 2018 tacoma limited wheels 18 inch with 2657018 tires on my 2006 tundra dc. I found a tire size calculator online and converted from the 16 inch to 18 inch tires with only .1 in mph difference.
