If I bring wheels into Discount Tire will they put any size tire I choose on? I know if I bring in my truck they seem to lose their minds when it comes to oversized tires. I want to install the Nitto 285/70/18 but don't want to fight with someone over why.

Yes. But they probably won’t let you buy warranty protection and you may have trouble with warranty overall, because you won’t be able to prove the mileage and that tires you bring in are the ones you bought from them.

Can’t prove it anyway, even on the truck, but getting them mounted on a truck initially… you can bring them in, off the truck, for warranty replacement, and they don’t argue.

I bought my 285/70 18 from discount and they didn’t flinch. ‍♂️bought wheels too but they knew what truck they were going on and said nothing.

Not at all, they deal with lifted vehicles and larger tires all the time. I always upgrade to larger tires and have used DT for many years, never an issue. It if fits, they install it. I have never had any issue with any warranty, I buy the certs and they have replaced tires (larger than stock) and never made a peep about them being larger than stock size or a higher load rating than stock tires.

Now that could be different based on local laws, like in CA for example. But I have lived in VA and SC and DT in those areas had no issues at all installing larger meats.

@737fixer i realized when I read these other replies, that my reference to warranty claims wasn’t clear. I am referring to “certs”. Tires are stamped with a code that indicates when they were manufactured, so a failure will be covered.

I meant that a potential problem could be a tire wearing early or something— since those are tied to mileage as well as time, DT could argue it has more mileage than you’re claiming.

Edit: but I and other truck friends have bought both ways.

They record the serial number on tire for warranty purposes and identification.

DT wouldn’t mount 35x12.5x18 on my 8” wide wheels I had at the time, but doesn’t seem like that should be an issue for you. Aren’t you located in AZ? What shop are you going to? I’ve had good luck with the guys at the Discount at Cooper and Warner.

Seems like different DT does have some different rules depending on manager.

I just purchased some used take offs for my truck, took them into DT and purchased the certificate’s. Some people say they won’t do that either.

I think you’re right about managers citing different rules for certs. I’ve experienced it once and, if the manager notes anything limiting in the customer’s file, it comes up when the customer file is searched in another store. Luckily, another manager seems to have the same volition to make their own ruling.

I have heard that Wal Mart won't put tires larger then stock on a vehicle but never have had or heard of Discount not doing it.
