Or are they just for looks?

Seems to me the only people who say they sound better are the people selling them.

    Too many, but not enough....
Just for looks unless you count a bad installed rattling piece of metal an audible difference.

Any alterations will make some minor differences. What you need is the version that lights up like a bluish flame after dark. :rocket:

There is quite a difference between a 2.25” pencil tip and an 18” long 4” echo tip. The tips do make a difference.

Factory XP tip is for looks. Tips are for looks. Unless you stick a 2ft POS out of the end of the pipe. Also at that point, still mostly looks. Chop the actual sandbag sized hardware from underneath for noise.

True, but why would any sensible person place an 18” long……4” in diameter tip on the very end of a tundra factory exhaust? Just asking for………….Biden/Gates scientific data.

My 12" welded tip sounds better than the stock bolt-on with an 8" BAM.

Tip is a tip. If you having a welded tip put on tricks your ears, so be it. The sound/noise comes from the actual exhaust, you know that large barrel shaped piece underneath in front of the spare tire underneath? That’s the muffler to muffle noise in the exhaust. Not the little piece on the end that is there strictly for looks to make people think it looks better.

Also I’m curious to know either one of the two:

how far did they place the tip on before welding to cover up the factory pipe. Making what looks like a double layered pipe
Or how much was cut off of the factory pipe before placing the tip and welding, to as I said, just look better.

Well now! At the risk of having my heterosexuality called into question, I will try to continue this conversation. :)

What's the diameter of that tip? (My stock stock pipe is 3", tapering after 4".)

I know that bullhorns exist for a reason, and the bell at the end of a trumpet is not there just because the trumpet player is gay.

So, I also believe enlarging the end of an exhaust pipe will in fact change the sound coming out, to one extent or another. I was just not certain how MUCH change would happen. Would it be worth doing for the sake of sound alone. Or would it be noticeable at all? I too have an 8" BAM. If I can make it just a little bit deeper or louder, I would like to.

I think it’s safe to say the tip could change/amplify the sound. Brass instruments for example I imagine all have a flared bell on the end for a reason. The diameter of the pipe/tip changes the velocity of the exhaust gas too which would change the sound characteristics.

The long echo chamber type tips produce a lower bellowing sound. I've had no tip, short, and echo. Tips do make a difference in overall sound.

I installed a small exhaust tip and it did change the drone range on the truck and lessened it to an extent. Beyond that, sounds the same.

My stock pipe is 2.5 at the weld, it used to taper to whatever size the OEM bolt-on tip was.
That chrome tip is 3" at the end.
Since blacking out my bumpers last week the nearest tip to what I have in black that I could find is 8" with a 3" OD.
I got it yesterday but I think it might be too short aesthetically..:(

The main reason I got the weld-on tip years ago was I liked the look better.
I just don't care for the bolt-on exhaust tips.
In this process, I noticed a little deeper sound, but apparently, that's all in my head..

Makes good sense to me. Trumpets make higher pitched tones. Tubas make lower pitched tones. Neither has a muffler on it to make it do that.

incorrect in many cases correct in some cases. Some tips are just for looks and have zero effect.
Others when designed properly and even improperly can have a drastic effect.

perfect example, we were out wheeling my buddy was in his Rebel with a Carven exhaust. He came off a ledge crushing the left tip we got home and he pulled both tips until the new one arrived.
The exhaust was substantially different. New tip arrived and was installed sounded just like it did before.

The trumpet example is spot on.

Since I have everyone's attention on the topic:
I want a black part to replace the chrome.
    As stated I think the 8" I got won't look right, too short, and I can't find a 12, actually 11.5..

I would just scuff and use a solid black/flat black high temp paint on your current tip.

Once you have a new black tip welded on, it’s going to need to be touched up anyways I’d imagine.

The 2nd one looks like the style Corsa uses, which is a high end exhaust. Classy with just enough flash IMO. Single always looks nice and understated/clean IMO.
