I recently went through a process after I purchased a used 2010 tundra, to reprogram a couple aftermarket key fobs. The Bluetooth programmer wouldn’t program the fobs. At this point I don’t know if my truck actually came with keyless entry, the Toyota website says it did? Does anyone know how do I confirm this or not? And how do I program some aftermarket fobs without going to the dealer, I used Tomskey.com and was unsuccessful.

I think your best bet would be to take it to a dealership.

    Step 1
Insert the key in the ignition with the truck off. Unlock and open the driver's door and close all other doors.

    Step 2
Insert the key in the ignition and then pull the key out. Perform this operation twice within five seconds and do not turn the key in the ignition.

    Step 3
Close and open the driver's door twice, and then insert the key in the ignition without turning it and remove it. These operations must be performed within 40 seconds.

    Step 4
Close and then open the driver's door twice. Insert the key in the ignition and leave it there. Close the driver's door. Turn the ignition to "ON" and then back to "OFF" and remove the key from the ignition. You must complete these operations within 40 seconds. If you have done everything correctly, within three seconds, the door locks should lock then unlock automatically; if not, start again at Step 1.

    Step 5
Press the lock and unlock buttons on the new remote simultaneously for 1-1/2 seconds. Release the buttons and immediately press and hold the lock button for two seconds. Within three seconds, the locks should cycle once to show that it the procedure was successful. If they cycle twice, repeat this Step again. Once successful, repeat this Step for any other remotes you want to program.

Open the driver's door to exit the programming mode.

Thanks, after googling this process you outlined I find that after 2009 this won’t work and must use a ‘computer’ or blue tooth type programmer on anything model after 2009. Can you confirm or deny this works on anything after that?

@poochdog The easiest way to do the programing of the keyfob is using techstream. What city are you in? Get some Bros that have access to techstream in your city and ask them to program them. BTW in regards to the keyfobs from Amazon. I got mine from Amazon for my 2007 and programmed them without any problems. But I did it using Techstream. So you may need to do that.

Also did u find out if your truck has keyless via logging into Toyota Owners portal shown below? If you did see this there then YES your truck does have Keyless entry.

Thanks for all your help guys, my tundra is ‘grade’ about as plain Jane s as you can get but does specify ‘keyless entry’ on the Toyota owners portal. I was hopeful with Tom’s key and his Bluetooth device but I sent it back without success I’ll look into techstream again thanks!

That’s exactly what I purchased (2 pack) and was unsuccessful at programming with every method I could find, to include the Bluetooth/ODB & phone app interface.. (?)

Just do it via Techstream brother.. a lot less headache and done for free.. or at least the cost of the dongle which is good to have anyways. And or find a friend in your city that is willing to do it for you. Problem solved. :)

There's lots of cheap FOBs on ebay and Amazon. I tried a couple but not long after programming them did the buttons fail to work. I ended up finding someone on ebay selling used OEM ones that work just fine. I had to use Techstream to do it.

Ready for this update? SO after an unsuccessful attempt with Tom's Keys and his bluetooth device I went to my local ace hardware where the local guy confirmed and said they could help me out, no problems.. They had the FOB and the Ipad type device to talk to my Tundra via the ODB port. After multiple attempts, and confirming with him on toyota.com that my truck listed 'keyless entry', the Ace Hardware guy gave up and said he was unable to program the new FOB. He said he hasn't seen what my Tundra was doing to, basically not allowing the computer or device to enter programming mode for the FOB. I asked his opinion on why it was unsuccesful, he stated he has always been succesfull and was stumped but could only offer it may have something to do with a 'non-stock' stereo and some sort of anti theft attempt by my truck..(?) He thought my only success now lies with the stealership... Any thoughts guys??

I believe there is a limit of the number of fobs that can be programmed to your truck, you might have reached that while trying to program them. With the Techstream you can reset the number of fobs and program the new ones.

This actually true as well.. you need techstream buddy to see how many keys are programmed to it.. and a TS cable (buy v2.x.x which is a little bit more expensive) and Techstream link to download can be found if you search around. or find a buddy that already has it. I am sure you'll find someone in WA that has TS access to find this info.

With TS you can delete the older keys and just keep the ones you have as well.

hey i ran into this problem too with toms tsl-1 programmers. let me know what you end up doing. Im debating to reach out to toms to see if they can swap out the tsl-2 so i can see if there are other key fob that are already programmed.

Hey guys I’m back it’s been a couple years! So I gave up on this process of while back but I’m interested in starting again. Here’s what I found out since the last post. I took my tundra to the dealership and they told me my tundra grade model does not have the door control modulator needed just to add new fobs. my truck does have central door locking from the drivers door though. Which leads me to my next question: has anyone Installed aftermarket keyless entry systems (Similar to the ones on Amazon for $20-$60) On second GEN tundras like mine. If so please help me out with the wiring I’m confident I can do it if I just know which ones I need to hook up to. Thanks to all for your help.!

I bought my 2010 Base Model a few months ago. I paid local locksmiths to cut and program
2 new keys. It has manual windows. I don’t think it has keyless entry but am now wishing it did.
Where did you find the info on door control modulator which I presume is brains too keyless entry.

You might look into an alarm system with remote start. It should include keyless entry. My 2012 is also a Grade model and has keyless entry from the factory. I upgraded to a Viper alarm with remote start and still have keyless entry. I might still have the original fobs around somewhere if you think that'll help.

Cruiser pilot, my local Toyota dealership told me if you have power control locks in your grade tundra then you should be able to purchase The door control modulator which installs on the C pillar on the passenger side. That should allow you to add new fobs through a number of different sources that can do that. A new modulator might be up to 400 bucks. I haven’t done it but I think you can remove the plastic covering on pillar C and see if you have the plug sitting there waiting for the modulator. Since I’m cheap and I like a challenge, usually a bad combo, I purchased the $20 kit for keyless entry off Amazon, it includes two fobs and he will have to tap into the door locking mechanism on the driver door where the main control is. I’m gonna give that a shot I’ll let you know how it goes. But if you wanna spend the money you can get the modulator and a plug in play system for 4 to 500 bucks.

Thanks for the info. Mine is a RCSB so it doesn’t have a C pillar. Best way is for me to pull the door panel and see if it has electrics on the lock. I’m away at work now so be a while before I get to that.

IMG_9782.jpg All right guys for 20 bucks on Amazon you can have keyless entry. I just Finished the job and it’s pretty damn easy.

I went with the ‘Banvie’ Brandoff Amazon, it was literally $18-$20. The instructions inside are a little confusing but I’ll include some pictures below that will apply to this generation of tundra to make it easier for you if you’re interested in giving it a try. Keep in mind I didn’t hook up a flasher response to the lock unlock or a horn beep. So mine just locks and unlocks Without any other notification. I’ll also include a picture of how I taped the antenna up and I was able to get 50 yards away and still had ranged to lock and unlock the doors which surprised me. The first picture is the plug in your drivers kickplate that has your lock and unlocked leads in it. The second It’s just showing the face of that plug. The third picture is showing you your lock and unlock leads. Red lead is unlock. White lead is Lock. I put some small gauge t taps on that and ran mail connectors from the t taps to the unit. You will need anYou will need a constant 12 V supply to the unit. I got lucky as you can see in the fourth picture my amplifier power to my stereo system was running right there So I just tapped into that fuse and got power from it. The fifth picture is showing you how I taped my antenna up under that side panel that gave me well over 100 feet range. The last picture are the instructions included in the keyless entry box. I circled the system you’re gonna want to use, the negative supply system, that’s what this generation of tundra uses. And I put red ‘x’ on all the other plugs you don’t need to worry about. You only need to hook up the main plug leads and you’re good to go. And again on the main plug I didn’t bother hooking up headlights or tail lights for an indicator of lock and unlock. All in all totally worth 20 bucks as opposed to the other option at my dealer 4 to 500. If you have any questions let me know. Pictures to follow. IMG_9780.jpg IMG_9781.jpg

Got Amazon link? Looks to me like you have it there, you just don't have FOBs?
My truck VIN check says keyless entry so I'm hopeful it's all there I just don't have fobs for it. My truck has had
a couple more owners than most on here. No doubt just lost along the way. I might order a couple of the cheap
Amazon fobs and see about getting them programmed like I did with the SR5.
I do like that you don't have horn or lights. I hate that!!

The Toyota international website listed my truck is having keyless entry as well. My earlier posts detail the two or three attempts I went through to try and program a few fobs to my truck which I was never successful at doing. It took a trip to the dealer for a different issue to have them confirm I did not have the module to be able to program them. So you’re on the right path try that first if you’re unsuccessful at just getting the fobs to program give this a try it’s pretty easy, I tested it again tonight and I was able to get a full 100 m away from the truck and it’s still locked and unlocked.
