Went to remove the cat plate that came on the replacement truck, saw these bolts. Hopefully someone knows what these are and where I can get a socket to remove.

You will need to find the brand of bolt to get the correct bit, since the spacing and sizing isn't uniform. If you don't plan to re-use. I'd just drill them out.

Those are custom keyed security bolts…bust out the grinder and cut the heads off.

They’re non-uniform in both depth, width and location around the circumference…

rules out security torx or security torx plus.

Just because it wasn’t designed to work with it doesn’t mean it won’t. :boink:

In high school, I discovered the key for my steering wheel lock opened the doors and started my friends 1st gen 4Runner.

Never know if you don’t try!

BTW OP grats on new truck. Any previous owner who put those bolts on prolly took good care of truck.

Also, get bolt head protectors for those bolts when you reinstall. Cheap and they make it way harder to grind them off or shear off the heads offroading. Ask me how I know lol

Awesome, that looks like the one. Just ordered it. The Harbor Freight stuff didn't look like it'd fit at the store.

Neither these bolts nor the cat shield will be going back on. I'm putting my plates from my old truck on.

As mentioned it’s a torx security fastener. You can buy regular sets of Torx driver/sockets with sizings t8, t10, t15, 25,27,30,40,45 and so on. For the security fasteners it’s the same thing but with an h on the end t8H, t10h etc.
