Does hybrid shut off at 35mph?

I was at Toyota today and the salesperson told me that after 35mph the electric hybrid shuts down. So basically after the holeshot (low speed) there is not much or any benefit. I assumed that if I was driving 70mph and punched it to pass someone the hybrid would assist but he said no. Now I've driven both hybrid and non-hybrid) and I tend to agree...the hybrid is quicker out of the hole but after that they seem to be the same. I towed my 6000lb trailer today to test the hybrid and I was very impressed. Better than my 2018 6.2L GMC 1500. Will I find the same thing tomorrow when I test the non-hybrid that it will pull about the same with that trailer?

    Thoughts anyone?

The TT v6 is so damn fast why would anyone need a quicker holeshot.

    Right...I'm 55 not 18. I could give a rat's ass about that. But it is fun...no doubt.

The electric motors works all the time as long as the battery has charge and is at operating temperature. There is a MAX gauge that shows when the electric motor is providing boost and it happens at all speeds. Dealership guys don’t really know much plus there is really not a lot of good information out there from Toyota.

My 2023 Tundra will still kick in to EV mode under ultra low demand even at speeds >35 MPH. It does do this less often during winter and when the battery temp is cold, but will always be available to “boost” the ICE, even when cold and at higher highway speeds and high demand. The battery power is available but very much controlled by the computer and allocated as it deems necessary. Regardless of weather and conditions, don’t plan on spending a ton of time in a 3rd gen HV Tundra under EV only power. It’s simply not made for that but will do so under very particular circumstances.

Depends on temp, charge, and likely several other factors than just speed and load. The ICE can shut off at 55 MPH, but won’t do so predictably in every possible circumstance. Mine won’t even shut off predictably at 15 MPH in my neighborhood but will sometimes.

I don't know who the know nothing salesman is that told you that BS but i know for a fact when i put the pedal to the metal all the fun begins electric motor shows full power and turbos go to max and it will run like a bat out of you know where and bye bye the the person you pass. I mean it is AWESOME. IT'S THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS because i am not buying into the full electric crap just yet due to the ignorance of the gov't knowledge of the law of diminishing returns. And yes I am a fan of Elon Musk

UPDATE: I pulled that same 6000lb trailer today with the non-hybrid. If I'm honest I barely noticed a difference and I was really looking for it. I did some hills and brought her up to highway speeds for both motors. I could hear the turbos spooling which was good. This experience was very helpful for me when ordering my truck. I think I will opt for the non-hybrid and put that $3000 towards other accessories.

The hybrid fills in the up/down shifting gaps in the ice motor while pulling up hills, you won't feel a difference in power but it's more consistent power

I have had hybrid motor kick in by itself at 70 mph on freeway in econo mode. But it is rare.

I have a multi mile straight stretch where it will stay in hybrid only.

I do have it run for couple miles or so in hybrid mode when running around 45-55 on fairly level roadways.

Many years ago I had a dealership salesman tell me putting the Tacoma I was looking at from D to 4 was, and I quote, “the more power mode”

wouldn’t worry too much what a salesman says unless it’s, yes I’ll ask finance to take those fees off again :)

That's bullshit. I have been rolling down the highway at 100 KMH ( 60 MPH ) and the engine has shut off and ran on hybrid numerous times. At 120 KMH ( 75 mph) it never comes on.
