I currently have a 2019 Tundra Limited with a chrome grille. I would like to buy the 2017 TRD Pro Cement Grille from Toyota already painted this way I don't have to paint it. I been getting conflicting information from the forum on the color matching. Some say it matches perfectly and some say it does not. Have anyone did that and can provide some input please? I would hate to buy it and not match the same color. Mine is a 2019 Limited. I appreciate any info before I waste the money. Thanks

Based on the photos I see online. It does not. I have not stopped and inspected it in person. I know, I see a lot of limited super white that does not match from the factory.

I appreciate that @SprinterAE86. I would like to hear it from someone that personally did it already on their own cement truck if possible please. I do know that some bought it painted from Sparks that did not match . But I'm going to buy the TRD Pro OEM painted . Sparks uses a paint shop . Thanks

It’s not a 100% match. Installed mine over the weekend.

@Travo60 . What year TRD Pro Grille did you buy? 2017? and what year is your truck? Do you have a picture you can share ?

Even if it's the exact color code they will not match 100%. The paint will look different as one is on metal and the other plastic. In some lights it will look closer and others more different. Even color matched from the factory differs. I believe White and black match the best.

I would say it would not match 100%. Our trucks color fades with sun weathering etc. The only way you would get a 100% match is to find a shop to scan your truck and then mix the paint accordingly. Even from the factory there is some variation between panels painting metal vs plastic.

I hear that a lot that one is plastic and one is metal so it should not match . I respectfully disagree. If you look at the ones OEM painted such as the Sport, Platinum and the Pro. It matches perfect from the factory .

My truck is 2 months old and garaged. Not faded yet. If Toyota is using the same exact paint for the cement gray on the 2017 TRD pro and my 2019 Limited, color should match regardless plastic or metal. Again, Slight difference in color is fine. Maybe 95% not 100%. but you can see some pictures on the forum with a huge color difference.
That tells me its not a plastic or metal issue. Its a different shade completely . You see it either lighter or darker.

I think they are close, but not 100%. My friend works at a Dealership and I stop by often. The other day they had a cement and voodoo in the showroom and neither grill matched fully. I noticed it right away. But, might be more so for me as I deal with color quite a bit for work and my OCD is high about it. Some people may not care about a slight difference. That being said I much prefer the color over the overdone chrome. Just my opinion.

Just replied to your PM. Sounds like you’ve already seen the pictures of mine. I think it matches nicely. 100%? Maybe not. But close enough for someone like me who’s OCD about their truck.

Metallic or pearl paint applied to metal and plastic parts with the same equipment, at the same time (which these parts are not) will absolutely look different. The parts and trucks in question will be painted months or years apart. Toyota could even change paint suppliers in the mean time and they’re certainly spraying from a different batch with different equipment. We’re not rolling on latex here. The idea of a perfect color match on anything other than identical panels sprayed simultaneously on the same plane is wishful. With a few minutes in the right light I could take a cell phone pic that would make you think I replaced any panel on your truck with a darker one. Cement is not a hard color to match but if you’re going into it looking for a variance you’ll find it. Google camaro quarter panel mismatch. Cars painted at the factory had people lining up complaining that the doors and quarters didn’t match. Slight angle difference at the panel gap. Slight.

Doesn’t Toyota use a single stage paint or whatever that has the clear built in on the metal parts? Do they use that on the plastics too ?

Could the slight veriance in paints on grills/plastics be due to paint + clear maybe ?

I’ve never seen a color match done after original purchase that was 100%.

I know Toyota of cool springs stopped shipping most colors on the parts due to complaints. Have also seen a bunch of complaints on sparks parts color matching too.

You’re either gonna need to settle on it most likely not matching 100% or have it painted locally where you can see it with your own eyes in person and make them repeat until satisfaction.

This is my 18 with a 17 surround. There is a slight difference. I think most will be off a little. As someone already said, lighting plays a role as well.2BDA1962-CA6C-4BAC-8AAA-B8853DF61AD4.jpg

Here is a overcast picture. Hard to tell from the glare but the grill is a shade darker than the truck painted metal. Pretty close. 2018 truck, 2017 grill from Toyota cool springs.

I see at least 3 different colors there. Which is pretty normal for Toyota. Mine in super white, and has 4 different colors on the front end.

Trucks painted in one plant, plastic grill made in another, bumper ends made in yet another, then all married up on the line, some variances are to be expected. Even if all of them were painted at the same time, the colors would be off. At least 3 different substrates there, that will each reflect the light a different way.

No they do not. Clear is a separate booth before the ovens. That goes for the plastic parts on the grille. The grilles are fabricated in another satellite location that is adjacent to the plant. I seriously doubt they are going to match 100% as they are not sprayed with the exact same lot of paint like the body. Base coat is water based and clear coat is solvent based.
