Hello .. i am a Canadian planning to spend several weeks in the United States. I have a '23 Tundra, I don't subscribe to any Toyota paid services.

In Canada, I connect via Android Auto use my phone's GPS functions. When I travel to the US, my cell phone data plan is limited so I don't want to use my phone to navigate and burn up a bunch of additional costs.

If I subscribe to Toyota Drive Connect to use the subscription navigation system, does that system also use my phone's data plan?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I'm not very tech savvy!

    Thanks for helping out!

It does not use your phone. The onboard GPS system functions on it's own. The vehicle gets its own data. It basically has it's own sort of phone built in. The SOS and app controls work over this signal as well.
