Can someone direct me to which led bulb I should buy to swap out the regular dome bulb to a led bulb. I keep hearing stories that they’re maybe an error or it may damage the system if you don’t get the right bulb. I understand the size; but the whole canbus error thing I keep reading about. …… also had that issue with the headlights but got that fixed with the resistors from super bright leds. Thanks in advance.

Just yesterday I replaced mine with a 31mm "festoon" LED. I'm not entirely sure what canbus is, but I bought a two-pack on amaz0n from the brand LASFIT and it says in the title of the page "canbus error free".

It worked, its bright, and I elude canbus another day.

    Hope this helps.

I changed all mine except the dome to sea light leds off Amazon. Still need to order the dome bulb. You can get the part number from rockauto.

I just bought the kit Fyreflyz, who I've used for several vehicles now. (this kit)

I didn't use every bulb in the kit, but definitely used all of the interior lights.

I've had FyreFlyz led's in my 2015 for several years now and they have all performed well. The only issue I have had was trying to use the driver footwell bulb from the kit. It would not fit the bulb socket. Easy fix with another brand bulb.

I was looking at a cheap kit on Amazon, but now concerned about the CANBUS. Are these trucks CANBUS?

Given that in my years here, both as a lurker, then after joining, I've literally never seen anyone bitch or complain about CAN bus probs with these trucks, I'm gonna go with NO. CAN bus is not used for lighting in these trucks, definitely not interior and I'm doubtful about exterior lighting.

Normally w/CAN bus vehicles where lighting is monitored, the vehicle will bitch with idiot lights if a bulb is burned out or not installed. If they used it anywhere in these trucks, I could see it on the headlight circuit, but I don't even think there's a dummy light for that. If you pull a bulb and you don't get a warning that it's out, that circuit isn't CAN monitored.

    Awesome, Thanks.

My 06 Ram is CANBUS and is incredibly annoying.

    Well, easy test.

Remove the dome light in the RAM. Do you get an error or warning?

If yes, repeat in Tundra. Do you get an error or warning?

Please let us know what you find out. I see with a quick search the question has been asked here a couple times with no definitive answer. This thread here at least links to more info from SuperBrightLEDs, which is another great vendor for bulbs.

I can tell you, I have an '06, last year of the 1st gen. I had no problems w/the FyreFlyz kit I linked to. If you're worried, it's $12 for almost all the interior lights you'll need. I seem to remember the foot wells didn't work also, but I had to contact them to ask which bulbs were for what. I found I have a 2nd pack of smaller LEDs in my glovebox today, I think I may've purchased those separately for the foot wells.

Short answer No, not on 1st Gens 00-04. Can Bus was introduced beginning in 05 brake control system with VSC.

Somewhat longer answer, 1st Gen's 00-04, do not utilize Can Bus ISO 15765 protocol(pins 6 and 14 of OBD2 connector) excusing 05 mentioned above.
    We use ISO9141-2 protocol(pins 7 and 15 of OBD2 connector).
OBD2 was an unfortunate rabbit hole I went down years back when first getting Techstream but worthwhile rabbit hole in long run.

I'll leave it for those interested to venture down the Toyota OBD2 rabbit hole.

Below pics showing universal OBD2 Data Link Connector(DLC) that all Mfg's have to adhere to where applicable, a EWD pic of a 1st Gen DLC from my 04 and a EWD pic of a 2nd Gen DLC with CAN BUS protocol.

I'm running all LED lights in my '05 without any issues.

I've had LED dome lights for a few years. They are much brighter and I have not had any problems with them (2003 Tundra). I think I used 31mm DE3175 bulbs off Amazon.

I also replaced the lightbulbs in the footwell and glove box with LED T5 wedge bulbs from Amazon. That was an excellent upgrade too.
