I bought HP5 LED dome light bulbs as replacements for the very dim 194 OEM bulbs in my truck. I got them from Diode Dynamics. The dealer printed out a very basic procedure for removing that box where the bulbs are located because bulb access is at the back. I used a plastic tool to get my fingers under the lip of that box, and just pulling down [hard] on it is supposed to release it, but I pulled with my entire body weight and it would not budge. I’m afraid of breaking it so I stopped. Have any of you done this yet and if so, what is the trick? I can only imagine how much that box costs if I break it. As part of the pull-down maneuver you’re supposed to slide it slightly forward but I never got that far. Any guidance is appreciated!

I didn’t see anything in that thread about removing the box where the dome lights are so I could replace them. It was an interesting read though!

@Omnivore You didn't read what Ryan linked to then. Good luck changing out light bulbs that aren't light bulbs!!! Better get your soldering iron out!

Overhead console is a sealed unit. MESO has a preorder specifically for 3rd gen tundra which replaces sealed units. Only way to achieve brighter interior lights today is to add them. I’ve added VLEDs rear footwell lighting kit to my overhead console which does the job for now.

@Omnivore Here is what you missed, you're not the first person to ask this question and this question has other threads besides the one Ryan linked and this has been beaten to death. But hey we're all probably wrong.....

You’re right, I missed it. I don’t remember saying anything about anyone being wrong though. Cynical much?

Ryan, thanks for showing this. At this point there is probably no reason for me to remove my roof console box. I’ll just return the bulbs I have from Diode Dynamics.
    Cheers

The most cynical!!.... for threads that get started for questions that could be answered with a little searching and a little reading to see if this question has come up before and then ignoring the answer provided.... Happy merry holidays or whatever it is I'm supposed to say these days! I'm looking forward to my lump of coal this year!!

I contacted Meso and they told me their LED replacement map lights will be in soon. They said they will email me when they have them in stock. I watched their install video for the Tacoma, which they said was same for the Tunda. Looks pretty simple.

Both were in stock for me yesterday. Not sure about today though. Didn’t pull the trigger though. Not sure I want to drop $150 on just interior lights yet. Wonder if there is a tundraforum discount or not.

Install was straight forward like the videos, fit and finish is very good.
Brightness is to be determined tonight but I did have to switch it to red for install because it was blinding me .

My wallet hopes that these aren't an improvement. We know they can't be worse. Looking forward to the report on how they work.

Just DIY a set of VLEDs rear footwell add ons. Great output for $50, $40 currently with the sale.
I’ve had it for over a year with no issues.

Ordered the Mesa front and back Thursday- still in stock per web site but order not fulfilled. Had them in my Tacoma and well worth the money. Super bright. Would hurt your eyes if you looked up. Hope they ship.

I installed mine last night. The install was pretty easy, if you are not used to working on a Toyota interior it can be a little nerve racking the first time all the noises and how hard some of the pieces are to get out. I had these in my Tacoma and never switched them out of the red. Even if you do not like the red the white is super bright.

My meso order ended up going to Indianapolis for some reason. Meso and I are in California...should've gotten them in 2 days but good ol USPS never fails to screw up.

Just the red is like night and day in terms of brightness compared to the OEM ones, the white is like the sun is inside your truck.
Buy them before you have to wait another year for the next batch.

Pretty much this. I am actually considering just leaving them on red mode cause it's already comparable to the OEM light. The white is really bright!

Just make sure you guys order some extra panel retaining clips because when I pulled mine out, both of them broke. Luckily I had extras already cause I installed a dashcam/radar detector so I had taken them off before.
