Hi folks, when opening the driver's side door from the outside, a lot of effort is required to disengage the latch. From the inside, I have to throw my shoulder into the door to open it while pulling the door handle. I do notice that the harder I pull it, the "easier" it is to open. But I have to pull hard and it's plastic.

I checked the alignment and do not see an issue there.

Has anyone else had this issue? I checked out a few vids on YouTube....seems no matter what the issue is, the door panel will have to be removed, disconnecting a bunch of stuff, to replace mechanisms....perhaps to both the driver's door and access door. If taken to a shop, I am thinking this could get expensive.

Whatever you do, don't go aftermarket with the latch if you replace it. If you don't believe me, search for how many fly-by-nighters have popped in here unable to open their door after swapping the latch.

If you do choose to go aftermarket, make sure the door card is OFF before you close the door so you have access to reach inside the door and attempt to pop the door again.

Are the door latches the same for sequoia and double cab(I would assume)? When I look up the part number using the toyota-usa.epc-data.com it shows the same part number. When I plug the part number into ourisman toyota parts it says it wont fit, and comes up with the door lock actuator motor instead that is double the price.

I replaced my driver's side on my 2001, after 22 years or so. Yes, go OEM and get one while they are still available. OEM parts won't be around forever. I quit using the drivers door until I got the part, it was about a month wait for the part. Fix it before the door refuses to open at all, or you'll have a bigger can of worms.
